If BMW had built an M3 Touring, this wouldn't be a discussion. For some reason, I'm not really drawn to the RS4/RS6 Avants. Can't explain it, but they don't tickle my pickle. Whereas the idea of a chipped and pullied S4 Avant (the supercharged V6 version) has a bit of appeal.
C63 (or E63) estate? Boost and a V8 8-)
In my head they don't handle very well. I don't actually know if that's true or not, but I'm not really a drifter and like lots of grip and my prejudice is that the AMGs are just dragsters.
To be fair I haven't driven either so you may well be correct! There's the C43 AMG which is four wheel drive, but not sure how special that will feel.

C4S and a cheap estate for practical stuff is the only option :D ETA: GG beat me to this suggestion!

Funnily enough I was wondering this morning if W205 C63 estates were now sensibly priced. They are, really - a 2015 car with 42k miles for £31k from a Merc dealer seems pretty good to me: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified ... 2014497092

There don't appear to be any C43s which are cheaper than that, though the earliest are a year newer.

ETA: but importing something mad from Japan is a very appealing prospect too. I know I've only had my Volvo for 8 months of a 2 year lease so it's still a fair while before I need to plan a replacement, but these are both thoughts I've already had. Or just getting a very high spec Audi A6 Allroad and keeping it for years. I was always anti having the same car twice but I've done so with my 545i (the second of which I really loved) and MX5s without feeling like I should have branched out more.

Can't you buy a dog eared diesel golf estate for the practical stuff and a 911 for when you don't have to lug anything large around with you? IIRC you have two kids and if they're under I guess 5' 5" and you're under 6'1" I would expect you can get them in the back seats for short journeys so still usable.
I’m not really interested in the 2 car option - too much hassle and I already have a practical diesel estate to use (but can’t swap for whole days at a time as she can’t get insured on the M3).

I enjoy being in a fast car all the time for when the right moment comes.

Worth asking how much to extend it for a year. 3rd year on my hatch was 180 a month.

I wasn't sure if they'd write and offer it or whether I had to ask. I might ask as I'm not desperate to change.

While you're at it ask for revised monthly if you're over the miles as that's usually cheaper than paying full excess per mile.

Different car but same situation, my Dad’s lease on his Tiguan with VW (250pm) is about to come to an end and he’s been offered £190pm for a third year. After they initially offered nearly 300pm to extend it!

Depends what you want but it was a no-brainer for him. Reduced monthly, no deposit to pay and the car has loosened up nicely.

Yep :D On Sunday I spent nearly two hours sliding about in a quiet carpark.

It was ace.

Until the Police came and told me to stop it :(

Makes sense even if you're bored with the car. I must say the golfs aren't terribly exciting but then they are cheap to run and if you actually take it out of auto it comes alive. :D

For some reason Ive been looking at 5.0 xj jags - the na v8s are 13 ish. But then they don't have a boot so would be totally useless with the extra legroom for the dog

I extended my Golf R for a 3rd year (and then an extra 3-4 months too actually) for this exact reason. It felt like some very cheap motoring

Picked up the Audi today from the paint shop, we had a bit of a to-and-fro over the quality of it over the last couple of weeks and they ended up painting the bonnet, roof and boot again as I wasn't happy with it at first.

Looks pretty good - not perfect, but let's be honest here - it's a 1k respray on a 12 year old Audi A4 with 215k kms on the clock - not a Faberge egg. The guy at the paint shop said bring it back in a couple of months and they'll flat and polish one last time to get rid of the remaining orange peel, although I'm quite tempted to get a proper polisher and have a go myself - one for Future James to decide. The reflection in the bonnet shows it could be better but in the reals it's not something that jumps out at you.

Also had the driver's seat reupholstered as it was totally cracked and FUBARed - looks pretty good, especially seeing as some of the panels on the seat were retained (the part with the RS4 embossing for instance) - yes I know I need the proper seats for it, got 5k for me to buy some?!

It's at the car stereo place having a new head unit fitted (Sony XAV-AX100) - when I pick it up I'll take it to the local leather place and see if they can treat the other seats to match the finish of the new leather on the driver's seat - if not, life goes on. :)

They do, don't they! Just noticed that. I never noticed it before - when I get it back I'll see if it's just the photo or if it actually needs sorting.
