Most recently when I looked the 340i was only available with xdrive. Seems that way across a few of the models as well. I wouldn't want it, personally.

ETA: Just checked and the runout 340i is available as RWD only now - I'm positive it was xdrive only last time I looked.

340i has never been available with xDrive in the UK. The new 540i is xDrive only, but I’ve not seen any sign the new M340i will be.

Maybe it was the 540i I was looking at then Still, my issue remains - Xdrive can GTF afaic.

On the subject of BMWs I am increasingly annoyed with the run flat tyres on the 530.

These are big tyres, 275 19" on the back and they weigh so much that the suspension really struggles to cope with minor potholes and ridges.
The whole car shudders as the dampers try to cope. Would love to swap them for non runflats, but then for some reason there is no under floor storage in the boot like there normally is to take a space saver.

Don't know why not. The fuel tank is pretty small (only 65l) so I don't know where the space has gone

The RS4 is on proper tyres and no spare - the one time I had a puncture, in 150k kms, I just waited for a recovery truck. And I live in the third world.

7th June 2017. I hit a pot hole in the run flat equipped Mini and bent the rim. Adding £100 for recovery to the cost of a new tyre and wheel was most inconvenient. On top of that, not being able to continue my journey because of the massive vibration from the now out of balance wheel was a pain in the arse.

Audi had one a couple of months ago. Without the space saver it would have been major hassle

Also unfortunately the BMW had new tyres fitted all round just before we got it.

Loads do - Audis do, for instance. The RS6 doesn't come with it as standard but you can fit one.

However, BMW have removed the space where any spare would go. My solution with BMWs has been:
- get a spare alloy and tyre off eBay and keep it in the garage. Must be at least 50% chance any puncture would manifest itself by the tyre going flat overnight.
- get a puncture repair kit and compressor and keep them in the boot. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-VAN-TRUC ... 2288331102 is cheap and works; I've used it a couple of times. And you can use it without needing to take the wheel off the car (provided you can locate the puncture), so no need to carry a jack and wheelbrace.

Tyreweld makes an absolute mess of the wheel and tyre, and I've never successfully used it. Plus it's single-use; you get 30 repairs from that kit.

My BMW comes standard on non-runflats and has no spacesaver, just a can of gunk. If you get a puncture you contact BMW from the car and a nice chap comes and rescues you. Simples

That kit looks good, Jobbo. I’ve never heard of anything like that before. I’ve got the BMW puncture kit (gunk, compressor etc) and also a spacesaver but for £6 I’ll have that too.

You use them loads in agriculture as it’s an easy repair but I wouldn’t trust it if doing A VMax run or as a permanent repair which many seem to do.

No, and I wouldn't trust a space-saver on a VMax run either. FFS, it's fairly obviously an emergency measure to get you to a garage or home.

It's well worth having a go at using that kit before you actually need to, BTW. It's not that difficult but it was a bit of a faff first time I used it, and the wheel and tyre weren't on a car.
