Changed the rear bearing on the Mito, solved the noise. Took it for its MOT and it passed but the tester told me to put my hand on the front spring whilst he turned the wheel - could feel it vibrating. Said to change the top mounts for next time. So not a pass with flying colours.

On the way back I got stuck in a big traffic jam. The roads were blocked off by white supremacist protesters I think. Or burglars.

The plastic topmounts are pretty crappy, but cheap and easy enough to change with some spring compressors. One of those parts that’s shared with the corsa and punto.

Unfortunately I don’t think there’s an upgrade unless you spend a load on solid alloy ones which wouldn’t be worth it unless you’re making a full on trackday car.

Listed the Up on Motorway. Despite the scratch on the bumper (more on that below) the reserve was set at £7500. As I was planning to list it at £7900, it's due a service soon, plus the scratch....I reckon it's about right, as there are dealer cars for sale for £8k with similar mileage, but I doubt they're as clean as mine is (despite the scratch). I can collect the Honda E from the 12th, so it'll make things easier.

Does kinda hurt me giving it to Motorway, given how well it's been looked after, but I'm not sure I've got the time/energy to deal with private buyers for a car like this. You can all regale me with tails of woe about how Motorway traders have fucked you over on the day of collection if you want to.

Re: Scratch, I bought some of this "Chipex" stuff to avoid paying £300 to repair it. Alas, it didn't work. Tried many methods, but it just didn't seem to improve it at all. Even on stone chips, it seemed to pull it away, so not overly impressed but may also be our heavy-handedness, so YMMV.


As for the Evora, it's not moved in 2 weeks due to holidays, house stuff, VW/Honda shenanigans. Stereo still not been refitted properly, so CTEK to putting in a shift on the battery. I've managed to fit it snugly into the garage after a clear out. @mik I got the PPF, so many thanks.....probably be about 12 months before I get around to fitting it

Blue - I "bought" it about 2 months ago, but he's been waiting for his new car to arrive, which got delayed. Not necessarily an EV person, but really like the Honda. Slightly concerned about parts availability and some of the outrageous prices (like £800 for a door handle) as it's a daily...so hopefully it works out.

Looking forward to seeing updates on the E, Matt. That was what I had in mind to buy but the R5 appealed to my wife more. The E definitely has more of a cool factor than the Renault now the R5 is becoming more commonplace, though I don't regret the Renault.

Any reason why I should not buy these rear discs & pads for mrs mik's Etron? I've never heard of Napa.

Napa is the US equivalent of our Euro car parts. They came here a few years ago and have their own warehouses in the South East. As for the brakes shouldn’t your car have 2 piece discs? I mean you may not care.

OEM fronts look like 2-piece, but in reality they aren't. Just the casting with "posts" to the rotor.



I did the fronts some time back (using MTEC discs which are just solid in the centre and have remained far more corrosion free than the originals) - now looking for rears.

MTEC rear discs & pads would come in around £160 ~ close to double the cost of the above carpartsinmotion offering

Napa are probably fine. They’re bread & butter level. I think I had something Napa on the MINI.

Are the discs coated / painted ? That’s one thing I don’t mind paying a couple of quid extra for.

MTEC definitely are, and a look at the Napa UK Website suggests that their discs are all coated.

NAPA Brake Discs:

Warp-resistant OE vent design
Anti-NVH non-directional finish
Anti-corrosion Onyx Guard protective coating

Well - the Range Rover had a good run without costing too much in servicing and repairs. Sadly that has come to an end!

Just went in today and the service and MOT is £1,000 for a kick off. Then got the below list of remedial items:

- headlamp beams have become misaligned and need adjustment;
- battery is not holding charge (I knew this was coming at some point as it has been beeping at me every winter for the last couple of years);
- rear discs are shot from corrosion and need replacing (this is annoying because I replaced the pads on them a couple of years ago and will need to re-do pads at the same time);
- transfer case fluid is contaminated and needs a flush;
- air conditioning gas is low so re-gas required (still seems to be working OK but apparently they've said it doesn't get as cold as it should);
- front control arms are shot and need replacing (again, I knew this was coming as it has been squeaking notably over bumps, etc.);
- alignment needed because of uneven tyre wear and as a result of replacing the control arms;
- oil leak underneath the engine which they think could be rocker covers.

Thankfully the warranty will cover a number of bits of this (even battery apparently) but they sent me the list before realising it had a warranty on it... total was £2,920.78 so just short of four grand with a service. If the oil leak is the rocker cover then it will be another £1,000 on top

Once the warranty items are included it will then drop to £3k including the service but still Annoying as I was going to use this opportunity to have the scratches on the paint fixed from years of being street parked but that was another £800 so will have to wait. Decent spec new shape RRs (in green or blue - I'm not interested in monochrome ones) seem to still be £80k though so the L405 is going to stick around for a good while yet so needs to be kept in good health.

Double annoying as I know the 911 has a massive service bill coming up in November as well...
