Tedious Guess Which Car I've Bought Thread

Post by tim »

With the trusty Mondeo approaching 194,000 miles I really thought it was time I replaced it with something a bit newer less miley and less likely to go boom at any given moment. You can be the judge of how likely that is tho

Here's a fairly big clue:

What gave it away mik?

Behold my rather lovely 2012 XF Portfolio S, 3.0 V6 Diesel. Appeared locally on FB marketplace, was too nice to pass up.

Oooh, interesting. The Tit X isn't badly specced from an interior standpoint, how does the Jag compare? I'd expect it to be better, but I'd be interested to know by how much.

A LOT

The titty is nice, agreed. The leather/Alcantara seats in it are possibly a bit more comfy than the XF, or maybe I've just not found quite the right position yet, but the Jag is leagues ahead. Everything is leather covered, dash, door cards the lot. Roof lining is Alcantara. The leather is better quality.

Only slight annoyance is the buttons are getting sticky, but to be honest they're not buttons you need to press much. I'm happy as a pig in shite anyway it's bloody lovely for 6 grand.

Sticky rubber affects almost everything from that time period, to be fair.

And yeah, those part leather/alcantara seats in the Mondeo are pretty bloody good.

I'll be watching with interest - in a few years if I find the Z4C a bit much, then it's either gonna be early F-type 3.0 SC V6 if I still fancy something sporty, or maybe one of these if I fancy something a bit cheaper and more chill...

Edit: Also RIP Tit X, sounds like it served you well enough though.

Always liked these. Happy wafting Tim :) I have the same issue with sticky buttons in the S Class, let me know if you find the solution!

I prefer to wear latex gloves. Just saying.

Nice purchase. Put a Warrantywise warranty on it?

I reckon they’re pretty solid cars. Seems like the engines only grenade when fitted to a Land Rover
No more titty updates though *sigh*

Sticky switches.. I think Sreten did some attempts to clean it off, but eventually just bought replacements; is that era not Ford spare bin parts? Might be quite cheap if so!

I love a Jaaag! 😎

Owned one, loved it. That diesel V6 is really tremendous, I know it’s a cliche but you forget it’s a diesel. Sips fuel cruising along the motorway in 8th but gives you shove when you need it. Happy wafting!

Looks lovely 8-) nice purchase, what was the seller like? I'm a big fan of Fb marketplace for buying and selling stuff, but it can be a complete lottery.

Does that have the same 3.0 V6 / Auto Box combo that Clarkson raved about in the S Type ?

Does it have the same crappy infotainment as my 2012 Disco ? A 2012 BMW is *vastly* better.

But agreed about the leather. They get that very right.

Not sure about the specific buttons here but IPA (no, not the beer, the other IPA) should clean it off.

Vastly is an understatement. I don't know how anyone could ever complain about any generation of iDrive when you use the abysmal crap infotainment others provide.
