Saw this this later tho and may be a goer. Any thoughts, hive mind?

The only thing I would say is it might be worth trying a mk3 before you commit - they moved the game on significantly and it's effectively an Arteon. Well, the Arteon's actually a Superb would be more accurate.
I'd agree with Mike - it is worth getting the newer generation and there seem to be plenty of Superbs (and Passats) well under £10k.

Thanks Swerv unfortunately she's in a rush and this one seems a good one so we're getting it inspected at a local garage tomorrow and hopefully buying it.

The one thing that bothers me is there's no evidence of DSG servicing. I've called Skoda and nothing on their national database either. It's possible it's been done and the paperwork has been lost I guess. It's only got 70k on it tho and I've told her to get it done ASAP.

No worries. Fingers crossed it's a good 'un. Our neighbour 2 dors down has a mk2 estate - he's had it as long as we've been here (13yrs) so they must be fairly decent buses. :)

Purchased and it all seems tip top. So far ;) Thanks all. Did take me an embarrassingly long time to connect to the Bluetooth; I am very much a luddite though :|

Nice one.

So you can buy another Caterham now with that in the household?

Argh, just too late to contribute usefully! I have had a manual MK2 and a DSG mk3. The MK2 I used as a taxi and had the 140 bhp engine. The two guys on the stand that had 170 DSG elegance models both got rid of theor cars due to DSG problems.

I would have walked away from one without the history, especialy early models.

Having said all that, the MK2 felt a better car to drive (140 TDI SE v TSI 220 Sportline) and they are good inside. My MK2 had been owned by a VET and was an absolutre ming box inside, despite having come from a Skoda main dealer. Only failures I had were clutch related and wear an tear on suspension, other than that it was very reliable.

Good luck with it, just remember hp wlong they are and how keen the parking sensors are, usually contsant ping whilst a long way from the wall, other car, kerb etc. I still get back in to adjust on occasion.

Cheers Gavin. She's getting the DSG serviced next week so hopefully that'll keep any maladies at bay for a while 🤞
