The Watches Thread
Re: The Watches Thread
Fuck me, check out the green one

Re: The Watches Thread
I see the "new" Bel Canto's are now on the Chris Ward website. Still don't want one, but I see funkier dials than the original ltd edition. Price hike too at £3745.Pete_ wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 5:14 pm
I ain't paying that much! It was inevitable it was going to happen though.
I did an EOI on the CW website when they launched and recently got an email saying they are hoping to get info on new colour options out in the next few weeks and they hope to get one to everyone who wants one in the second half of 2023. I haven't paid a deposit yet though...

Re: The Watches Thread
I'd like to see someone else wearing one, but couldn't see myself in one.

Can the hourly chime be turned off? Otherwise it is a bit of an unusable gimmick... a bit like have a grandfather clock on your wrist.
Re: The Watches Thread
Yes. I believe that’s the sole function of the button on the side.
No dong whilst you are sleeping.

Hum I really liked the Bel Canto when it first came out, still appreciate it for what it is but couldn't imagine myself actually wearing one.mik wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 3:37 pmI see the "new" Bel Canto's are now on the Chris Ward website. Re: The Watches Thread
Hmmm - just tried on a GMT Master II BLNR at Watchfinder. Didn't set my world on fire if I'm honest. Feels very dainty after the IWC and an odd combination of sports and dress. It was on the jubilee bracelet (i.e. a Batgirl) which probably didn't help, but I didn't feel any great desire for it.
They wouldn't even let me try on a Patek 5205 annual calendar as I haven't bought anything from them before / haven't paid a deposit. It is 40 Gs however, so I kind of get it but then again, I'm not going to wire them 4k, decide I don't want it and have them wire it back
The more watches I buy I realise that what it looks like in pictures on the internet and/or other people's wrists / what conception I have of it in my head, is largely irrelevant
I really like the manual wind vintage Omega I bought (notwithstanding that it's currently broken
) so I think if its a 39/40mm case my brain is telling me it has to look like a dress watch. That means a Rolex is probably out the window - maybe i'd look at a birth year GMT for my 40th in a couple of years, though its only available in a Coke (Black / Red) bezel in that year.

Re: The Watches Thread
Coke aluminium bezel GMT is gorgeous - they fade in very pleasing ways too so if you do go for one, have a look for one with the original bezel and not a new-looking service replacement.
Re: The Watches Thread
Anyone here into antique watches? Marie Antoinette's pocket watch is going on display in the science museum, it’s an absolute work of art

Re: The Watches Thread
Is 44yrs from commissioning to completion of the piece a record also?
(Accepting that the execution of the commissioner, and the death of the creator probably lead to a sizeable chunk of that timescale).

Re: The Watches Thread
Thanks for posting - I would very much be interested in going to see that. Shame its part of a wider paid exhibit not related to watches.

Re: The Watches Thread
I've been given one of these as a gift and it simply doesn't suit my wrist, the design is too chunky for my delicate runners wrists. I've got the green face, does anyone here want it?

Re: The Watches Thread
Ironically, "four decades" is about as long as a five quid Casio F91 will last...

Re: The Watches Thread
Stone chips on your Patek a problem? Stop strapping it to the bars of your unfaired motorbike.
