Cereal recommended servings

Post by mik »

This probably applies to many foodstuffs, but..... 30g? 30? :o

Has anyone who considers that to be the recommended serving ever seen how pitiful 30g of cereal looks in a bowl? :?

And the Kellogs multipacks are 24.5g each. I would suggest that no kid over the age of 1 has ever eaten just one pack for breakfast. :geek:

This is absolutely a complete joke across all food  it's also how the food industry can justify things like Frosties being part of a balanced diet, because if one serving is only 30g, it contains only 13g of sugar, which is easily within the recommended daily allowance of sugar.

Also, Dr Oetker pizzas are supposed to serve two people. TWO PEOPLE?

yeah, it takes at least 3 of those little single packs to fill a bowl, so i’d say 90-100g is closer to a real serving.

then i’ll happily have 2 bowls….

Yep, same way a standard tin of soup is apparently 2 servings  simply to mitigate the salt content.

As Gavster says, it's a joke across all foods.

Don't forget the similarly large amount of milk to go along with the proper sized amount of cereal, as part of your intake. Unless you're one of those weirdos who only has a dash of milk with their cereal. Drown that stuff, but still, make sure to eat it fast enough that it maintains the correct level of crunch.

I add flaxseed and wheatgerm and sultanas. Because healthy

That reminds me of one of Kellogg's slightly mind-bending legal arguments when the government wanted to put sales restrictions on high-sugar foods. Kellogg's claimed that because cereal is always eaten with milk, its nutritional values should be considered in that context too, e.g. what is the sugar % in 30g cereal + 150ml of milk. This would obviously dilute any sugar levels and take their cereals out of the "High sugar" category.

It was quickly dismissed

Also Tic-Tacs, which are almost entirely sugar, the serving size is contrived to make the sugar content below the measurement cutoff (1g ?) and they’re allowed to say they’re zero sugar 🤣
