Part (maybe not all) of the problem is that we always see vids of the company's promotional car, so they tend to stick on ALL the bits, even the ones that might not be in the best taste. My old boss had a W111 for a while with mostly W126 5.0V8 running gear, custom independent rear suspension and optional 15" 450SEL 6.9 wide alloys. Green with tan. Some of those are abolutely gopping, others are like hot wheels cars, I also liked the big Merc estate, was there not a wite one on here with a totally green interior recently? Most likely in the Jobbo interior thread.
I would also like a late 928 with everything working, maybe with larger more modern alloys and stronger brakes and ideally a more modern stereo.
I like seeing some of the restomods in EVO, but usually not enough to pay £10k, let alone the hundreds of thousands many seem to cost.
I would like a rust free and very lightly modernised Saab 900 Aero and a Volvo 850R wagon, just with better lights, high fi, no mad performance mods.

I'd also like a Carrera GT.

I think part of the restomod fun is dipping into the cottage industries around well loved classics and seeing what is available, what specialists are out there to tinker for you, etc. I think an original mini would be great for these reasons as there is so much stuff out there to play with.
I think the other draw is to make the car you wish they had made. For this reason I always fancied making a Jaguar X-type R.

Oooh, interesting, what sort of spec are you thinking? I don't know if Noble turbots would fit (they probably would in an ali XJ...) but the Volvo V8 might - I'm sure I've seen one in a C30 somewhere. I've oft pondered an Allroad type estate using Freelander suspension, surprised one of the yt channels hasn't done it yet (car throttle did it badly ).
