Lotus Elise S1 - tyres?
Lotus Elise S1 - tyres?
My recently acquired Elise came with 12 year-old Toyo Proxes and I don't really trust them much. I know a few of you have had extensive experience with Elises, what tyres would you suggest?
This is by no means a track car, but I'd like rubber that can cope with a semi-professional RACE driver using the car as intended on continental B roads and the occasional promenade down to the casino.
Any pointers greatly appreciated, thanks!

Cunt.
Re: Lotus Elise S1 - tyres?
Set of Yoko AD08RS is the default S1 tyre.
Edit - I’m also hearing good things about the recently released nankang CRS but unsure if they do S1 sizes.

Re: Lotus Elise S1 - tyres?
For an all round road tyre stick with Yoko AD08 if you can get them. Otherwise, toyo 888R's are a good semi slick at a sensible price, likewise Nankang AR1's are popular and good value. Alternatively blow the budget on a set of Yoko A052's as they are about the best road legal tyres you'll get for it.

The 52’s are excellent. That’s what I run on the S3. Even wet performance is surprisingly good.dan wrote: ↑Sat Apr 20, 2024 8:27 pm For an all round road tyre stick with Yoko AD08 if you can get them. If I was never going to track it however I’d stick with the AD08RS.

Re: Lotus Elise S1 - tyres?
How have you found the AD08RS?
I had the same conundrum, the S1 has such limited options now. I opted for the AD08RS too. They've been great in the dry but I was quite surprised by the wet performance. Under braking they were pretty good, which corresponds to the EU wet label of B which I think is based on braking only. Lateral grip seemed to be a different matter. They had done over 100 miles by that point so I'd presume they were 'scrubbed in', if you believe in that sort of thing.
The only other contender in the bigger tyre widths seemed to be Avon ZZS, but I'm annoyed now that I've found that AD052 is available if you know where to look. The only other option was PS3, but the only combination of tyre sizes I can find isn't ideal. Based on this table https://wiki.seloc.org/a/Tyres#Elise_S1 there are two width options both front and back, but I can only ever find PS3 with the wider 195 at the front but the narrower 205 at the back. I didn't like the idea of changing the balance with a bias towards more oversteer.
Have you had to drive in the rain on the AD08RS yet?

Re: Lotus Elise S1 - tyres?
I have AD08RS on, they do get mixed reviewson SELOC but I'm happy enough with them. Been on track with them and the seemed to cope with that fine to me (although it's not like I'm trying to win any races).
I did want ZZS as I liked them on my Caterham but they were WAY more expensive so I decided the 08s were worth a punt.

I felt the same, but according to the membership page, we've had 11 new members YTD!

Although.... Stangman is duplicated, so call it 10. And Stangman is also a self-declared pseudonym, so call it 9.
Looking at apparently new members only, we have a total of 2 posts from this group of 9 users

Interestingly 22.2% of the new members own an Elise.

Pretty much all of those are spammers who have never posted and therefore flown under the radarmik wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 9:57 amI felt the same, but according to the membership page, we've had 11 new members YTD!![]()

Re: Lotus Elise S1 - tyres?
Thanks guys! I can confirm I am new, and also not a spambot. Good to hear at least someone else is having a good experience with the AD08RS, most of the chat in forums seems to be people lamenting the transition from AD08R to RS but not a huge amount of comparison between tyres we can actually buy now.
Still wondering if I'm missing out on AO52, hopefully they're still available in 15" when I eventually burn through the AD08RS.

When can we have a pic heavy thread about your car? I'm always looking for inspiration to pour more money into my car.mustardYellow wrote: ↑Thu Oct 31, 2024 12:55 pm Thanks guys! Im running 52's on my S3 Club Racer. They stick like shit to a blanker and are witchcraft in the wet. They are however soft as hell and expensive.
