Why would payment in lieu of notice be tax free? Redundancy Payments are tax free, but afaia pilon is just treated as salary.
Im just reading up - i’ve had PILON before, at a company that i’d only been at <6 months and it was tax free (it was a good chunk of my first house deposit). not sure now…
When I've been involved in this before, the company had to be prepared to create a paperwork trail as if you'd been made redundant to avoid tax, but that was 12 years ago.

Looks like I'm through. Been told I'll be getting an offer tomorrow, that's a weight off my back.

It is with the company that owns my current employer, working for someone I know from a previous job, and on same T&Cs. The actual work is a step back into pre-sales, but that's no bad thing, it is something I enjoy doing.

Fingers crossed it'll be business as usual from next week (new boss is very keen to get me moved over as soon as possible).

Yay ! Stuff does tend to work out in the end, even when it’s not clear at the time.

Sorry to hear that. It is a sucky experience to go through. Fingers crossed you'll get sorted quickly.

Thanks - to be clear we are at the consultancy 'at risk' stage. There are 3 of my technical 'group' in this pre-sales team, and one of us is going. Don't know who yet. It sucks.

I was reflecting tonight on the jobs I've had over 27 years in IT.

Job 1: Made redundant
2: Saw the writing on the wall and found a new job before the company closed
3: Redundant
4: Left to move area
5: Put at risk so found a new job
6: Left to move area
7: At risk (now).

Not great really. I've never gone for a better job for the hell of it.
