Well, sorry to say I've not spent hours calling brokers because my first quote was excellent. Adding my MX5 to the Admiral policy I recently started for the S6 costs me an extra £199 for the remaining 9-10 months with no NCB that I can transfer over.

I'll investigate adding my wife's Macan to the policy too because she's been quoted over £1000 for renewal whereas I found cover for about £650 in my name.

My daughter is now 19 and will have 2 years NCB in August so has started looking at something "better" than her GT86, I am worried she has inherited some nerd car gene from me!

She really needs something newish, reliable (she commutes at 5.30am), ideally under warranty and obviously insurable. I feel the GT86 is probably the pinnacle given her age, budget and needs so advise her to revisit this next year. Then she sends me a screenshot of an insurance quote for 2023 Supra for £3,500 fully comp!

It doesn't make any sense how they come to these figures!

As regards a quiet rural commute at 5.30 am. I'd rather not have to lay in bed worrying about a lone female getting safely to work or not and from a selfish point of view if she did brake down I'd be the one sorting it out.

I'd be quite content with a 20yr old 996 but am absolutely onboard if she wants to mitigate some of the risk of reliability and ownership costs with a warranted car.

For comparison her mate at the same age and NCB pays £4k to insure a 2018 Mercedes A200!

£3500 for a Supra at that age is reasonable!
I didn't buy an E46 M3 when I was around 20 because the insurance was about £3500, but £3500 10 years ago was worth a chunk more! And I think the M3 was under £12,000 for a clean one!

Something which comes with a spare, even if a specs saver, making sure she knows how to change it, maybe keeping a longer breaker bar in the car to make it easier.

Safely insured have declined to reinsure me on the E46, as they are no longer touching non modified cars, so I'm expecting laughable quotes on a 22 year old shed.

Annoyingly, my neighbour was up for buying it, until midday today when he bought a Clio 182

(the person who 'was' buying it has been given his money back and been told to stop wasting my fucking time - but I've been so fucking busy the last two weeks with ISO external auditing/CyberEssentials that I forgot to knock on neighbours door - so he bought a different project we both had a proper laugh about that this evening, I may have cried a bit )

Adding my wife's Macan to the Admiral Multi-car policy was cheaper than her renewal or best other quote, before they apply the multi-car discount. They have been dead easy to deal with. Quite impressed; I know they have become quite a dominant player in the market and have had a reputation for being difficult about factory options in the past but they seem to have got past that.
