Re: It’s time for another forum cycle/vehicle disagreement
Lots of supposition; but it looks like an accidental collision. From the Police side , protecting the convoy.. pedestrian: dumb fuck with phone out filming.. Fair!
Cheers,

I reckon she was distracted by the convoy, checked the road for oncoming traffic as usual, however didn't realise the copper was coming down the wrong side of the road and on the wrong side of the traffic island. Not the copper's fault though, as he had his blue lights on, she simply didn't check both way.
Re: It’s time for another forum cycle/vehicle disagreement
That. Probably earphones in too.
Re: It’s time for another forum cycle/vehicle disagreement
Forget the stupid woman, I'm more surprised at the fleet of 3 Rolls Royces being given a police escort. Not on diplomatic plates either. Wonder who it's carrying?
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: It’s time for another forum cycle/vehicle disagreement
I wonder how the responsibility will come out - driving along the wrong side of the road surely heightens the responsibility on the driver, especially with all these new hierarchy rules.
Bloody stupid running into a road without looking both ways though.

Some royalaty maybe?

Driver 100% at fault. Some comments in the thread highlighting that the cycle lane had ended - which are irrelevant - a cyclist can still filter up the inside of a lane and if you can't see that your route is clear - don't cross. Driver is also a total dick for denying fault, and the bikes are fully visible to him as he is slowing to turn right.
However. Cyclist needs to consider whether they were thinking adequately defensively.
1. If you are filtering inside a row of stationary cars at a junction - this is exactly where incompetent drivers can prove their incompetence and take you out. Be alert and ready on your breaks.
2. Taking a swig of your drink obstructs your view and seriously impacts your ability to steer, and particularly to brake. Avoid taking a swig until you can see a section where you can see you are able to complete a "swig & return to holder" in a distance that you can already see is clear of obstructions & risks.
Neither of which make it the cyclists fault - he was getting cut up regardless, but I suspect he could have stopped or slowed and gone round the dickhead driver if he'd been in his "normal" cycling position. The drink bottle is still in his hand as he hits the car.

Yep driver’s in the fault for that.
When I cycle and approach a slow junction which is busy with traffic I will slow down as usually there’s someone who is going to turn in and visibility can be bad for both the driver and the cyclist depending on what car it is or if it’s obstructed by much bigger car. Usually a car gives way, other car turns in and assumes because the car has given way then the road is all clear - seen loads of mopeds taken out like that too.
But that’s simple life preservation which probably isn’t on the mind of someone donning Lycra and setting a personal time trial.

Seems like the cyclist speed up to make sure he hit the car and make a point.

That house has lovely proportions!
Re: It’s time for another forum cycle/vehicle disagreement
MrLoopHole reckons cyclist should be prosecuted for cycling without due care

I wonder how many people have been killed by Strava ?
A load of us used to cycle to work, only 6 miles easy way but you still had to be at work on time. Nobody was chasing times or heart rates though. At what point does your days performance come ahead of basic roadcraft ?
Driver definitely at fault but the cyclist kept to the inside of the curve and didn’t help themselves.
Just a totally different mindset for a lot of these accidents.
Dave!

I love the whole "lycra" thing which often comes up against cyclists. It's a weird one because nobody else doing some sort of activity gets slagged off for wearing appropriate clothing. Its not like you go and play fives with the people from work whilst wearing your suit and brogues.
Cheers,
Mike.

It’s not ok to wear Lycra when you look like a strung ham.
You have other things which blunt your performance, not a loosely fitting T-shirt.
Dave!

How should the Mini driver have avoided this accident? - they're making a, presumably, legal left turn, they don't seem to be driving with any significant speed. The amount of time between when they would have seen the cyclist to stopping was very short (as they came alongside the Tesla)
I'm not suggesting the driver was in the right but we've seen plenty of these videos where the driver has no excuse but this one, I'm not so sure...

no other activities involved quite so many middle aged men wearing skin tight outfits in public.Ascender wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 8:38 am I love the whole "lycra" thing which often comes up against cyclists. he's making a right turn - and if you can't see all the potential hazards before making a move, then you need to wait until you can get in a position you can.dinny_g wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 9:05 amHow should the Mini driver have avoided this accident? - they're making a, presumably, legal left turn, they don't seem to be driving with any significant speed. How should they avoid the accident? By considering other road users may exist. You don't have a divine right to cross another lane - it's up to you to make sure it's clear. The Mini driver simply didn't do so.
