Parking space widths
Re: Parking space widths
So further confirmation - cars are getting bigger, not spaces getting smaller.

Re: Parking space widths
Well, your 1er is based on e90 running gear which was the newer bigger 3 series after the e46 so not a massive surprise
Cheers, Harry
Re: Parking space widths
What about us wealthy folk who have cars nearly 2m wide?
Also, one of the bigger issues is morons who just DGAF and park stupid angles, or park offset. I sometimes miss having a banger and parking as close to their drivers door as possible.

Chode The early 90s called!
This was on BBC breakfast this morning. Was such a dull story with no conclusion.
Most modern standards specify 2.5m x 5.0m these days with 7m aisle widths (up from 6). It's pissing in the wind a bit though on the width issue.

Re: Parking space widths
I would have assumed going from E to F series would be a completely new, ground up floorpan rather than a parts bin special across generations, but then I stopped paying attention to such shit a while agointegrale_evo wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 11:20 pm Well, your 1er is based on e90 running gear which was the newer bigger 3 series after the e46 so not a massive surprise
I'm more surprised at just how, er, not much smaller than an E46 it is. Or perhaps how small the E46 was (despite being significantly more spacious in the front).
Scale and perspective do weird things from the outside, safety and NVH gear do a number on the inside I guess.
Re: Parking space widths
Again yet more proof that the E46 was peak 3 series.

Re: Parking space widths
I don't think the rod bearings in the E92 M3 were better than the E46, objectively.
Subjectively the looks of the E92 are so dependent on the CSL-style alloys that I'd say the E46 walks it.

Re: Parking space widths
E46's were rusty heaps, no? E9x just seem to keep on going unlike previous gens. And they're pretty tiny compared to a lot of modern stuff.
Re: Parking space widths
Pretty sure the E46 had rod bearing issues too - no idea which one was worse. If that's the only things - a shared issue and a subjective opinion on looks, then sounds like you agree!
Re: Parking space widths
I just posted two uncontroversial reasons why you’re wrong, and you think I agree? For the avoidance of doubt, you’re completely incorrect
Re: Parking space widths
Having owned the two cars in question for 5 and 4 years each, I'm inclined to value my opinion over someone who hasn't. (I'm only talking about the respective M3s, I don't care about the lesser models).
The e46 is a fantastic car, if mine hadn't been driven into, chances are I'd still have it and love it. But the e92 was just better - more fun, faster, better sounding, everything. I don't mind if you don't agree.

Re: Parking space widths
They both need to have the CSL wheels.
I think if it was an own it for a week thing I’d choose the 46 as that induction noise is ridiculous. To own one it would be E92 as the extra power and newer body with less rust problems would be a big bonus.
Aren’t I lucky that my bank account has removed these issues for me.
Dave!

I know you value your opinion, Rich. How does the M2 compare (in your opinion, obvs)?
Re: Parking space widths
Its not a particularly unusual opinion for those who have driven them to be fair.Jobbo wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 9:38 amI know you value your opinion, Rich. If you're genuinely interested, it's similar in character to both, but not as good sounding as either. It feels as quick as the e92 and has that same ability to spin up the rears when using the upper rev range that makes M cars fun.
The MDM mode on the e92 was better than the M1/2 modes on the M2, and both are a million miles better than the useless DSC button on the e46. Though the e46 was less scary to drive with no aids on because it was less powerful/torquey.
As a daily driver, all were very good - but the M2 can do 30+mpg when taking it easy whereas the e92 struggled to get over 20. The e46 wasn't much better. The e92s adaptive suspension was excellent though and gave it 2 truly different modes.
Re: Parking space widths
What about the rod bearings?
Re: Parking space widths
I think by now most of them have either failed and been scrapped, failed and been fixed, or never were going to and never are going to fail. They're 15-20 year old cars now, etc.
