Ooh - I don't typically like those kinds of number plate but that one is very on point. £5k already though...

A few years after that...

I have been mulling over getting a shorter plate of some kind. I have a 'letter, number, three letters' plate on both of my cars but whilst alright they don't look as good as plates with only four letters / digits. Think it would likely be a significant amount to get one of those though and not top priority right at the moment.

I keep looking at 4-character plates but haven't yet seen one which is sufficiently relevant to me to buy. You've got to be a bit lucky I think.

My wife has just bought JE11YCT because she is a big fan of Jellycat collectables. Which leaves me in a dilemma because we don't have a spare car for it to go on, so I do need to buy something soon.

3+1 or 1+3 should be a bit cheaper but it's still going to be well into 4 figures. But you should always get that back.

Seems like XX GG or GG XX would be £25k. Unfortunately I think having the same initial twice probably makes it more expensive.

Chris Harris has 4 SXW on his yellow Touring. Any one have any guesses what that is supposed to represent?

Maybe... number + XXX are all £5k+ so I would want it to have some meaning if I were to get one - even if tenuous.

I don't really get point of personalised plates at the best of times, so I'd rather have a short random plate like his than something with my name or initials.

If he’s had it a while he probably didn’t pay £5k.

FWIW DVLA originally sold it at auction in 2010 for £1k + fees.

Wow - I didn't realise that they had gone up so much in the last 15 years but I guess that's in line with everything!

PSE 6 is for sale which would work on my car - PSE being Porsche Sports Exhaust on a 6 cylinder car. £8,995 though :?

How about buying a cheap 4 character plate and legally changing your name to match it?

I’m available for advice all day folks 😂
How about not having a sig at all?

I know they are not your thing but the whole concept of private number plates is either the aesthetic of having fewer numbers or a combination of numbers or letters that means something to you or the car you put it on.

Predominantly I like that they are shorter but the idea of it not being completely random - even if it only has a loose connection - has an appeal.

I wouldn't pay significantly more for that though so the one I posted would be ruled out as the four digit plates start at around 4.5k and that's double.

I’m not sure 4 digit plates are worth the premium over a dateless 5 digit unless it has a particular meaning to you or has sentimental value. Sometimes they can look a bit too small.

A 5 digit + space will let you fit a uk font bumper onto a usa / Japanese / small format European recess or plinth and still have a nice looking shape.

Plates with an X in tend to be a bit cheaper. I've got 2 TRX and I think I paid less than £1500 for it although that was years ago.
