So I done a thing the weekend (very slow race content)

Post by Jay-me »

Have done a few track days over the past three or four years but entered an autosolo. Never done anything like this before, came 16th out of 41. Had two mistakes, and if I hadn’t of had the mistakes I would have come 9th.
It was only driving around cones in first gear but am definitely going to do it again. Shame I can’t upload pics/vids.

Excellent! JonMad and I did a couple together about a year ago and it was great fun, though much more kncackering than I expected. Despite being co-driver.

Yay ! Surprisingly difficult isn’t it ? Getting soundly thrashed by some old bloke in a shitty micra who’s been doing stuff like this for decades really opens your eyes to how bad your own driving is.

Ah brings back memories of freezing cold Sunday's standing around in industrial estate car parks watching my mates father race his Mini Special. :)

Looks fun.

Are there any cars that are significantly better than others (beyond small/light) ? FWD/RWD ?

I got beat by a woman (to be honest, she was very good and in an mx5 mark 1 which to be lighter and turns better/quicker.), and a twelve year old boy. His dad was up for the win and came fifth, the boy was absolutely mustard and came eighth and not that far behind his dad.

Erm yes and no, eg mark 1 mx5 seem to handle better than mine as they’re lighter and have less power and less power is not really needed
I came to the conclusion it’s how you drive and not what you drive.

I’ve seen these on the YouTube and although very impressive with their straight cut gears etc, the day I went to was a streetcar motorsport event. So current mot, road worthiness, road legal and all that bollocks.
Am definitely going to sign up to a local club and do more.

Yeah definately NOT road worthy - they were built for pure racing.

Is that maybe the difference between Auto-Testing and a Auto-Solo ? the need for the vehicle to be road legal ?

Autosolos are forward only, autotests go backwards as well
