Some of the requirements that the EU are imposing sound absolutely insane to me for this UNECE WP.29.

Imagine taking your car into a garage, but them not being able to fix it because they can't connect due to the ECU firewall blocking port 5682, and they can't recover it because the previous owner didn't hand over the Bitlocker password. Gonna have to re-install the cars OS.

This a is what happens when nerds who deal in zeros and ones get involved.

Expect tinfoil covered cars by 2025!

And it's always worth a reminder that Porsche isn't (as hasn't been for a long time) a sports car specialist. They mostly make SUVs & large saloons. So unless the EV boxster/cayman replacement is a roaring success that will become even more true in the future.

Is this not the reason that Gordon Murray said he just has an interface for the phone to keep up with what people need for navigation, connectivity etc.

Make the Taycan the halo car, introduce a 2-dr version of it, move to an all-EV lineup, bin the 911 along with the boxster/cayman.

I think you're right, my first thought was that Porsche are nothing without their sporting line up, but then I realised that I'm just not their market and they're really a luxury car brand rather than a sports car brand now.

It's sad for people like me who aspire to own their sports cars, but for all the people like me there's many more people who are interested in their SUVs.

Same with the VW Up - very basic stereo and you get an app for your phone with all the functions for the car.
Except the app was shit and they never bothered to do any actual updates to make it any good.

I'm sure that Porsche are very happy keeping on with the 911. If they can make a profit on selling the boxster for £60k, they're probably very happy making another £40k per car selling the 911 at £100k

It'll just be how they package it, it's a shape that has evolved, but with such a radical change to the drivetrain the question will be whether they start looking at form follows function, or whether they just say fuck it, just make it a 992 running on batteries. No doubt the latter.

But if the car relies on Carplay/Android Auto the apps are all updated at no cost to the manufacturer. That's most of what anyone needs in the way of nav/media interface these days.

I was wondering what the options would be to accommodate the batteries, what it will do to the weight and size of the car etc. I'm assuming all their sports cars will look pretty much as they do today,.. but with batteries.
