First impulse purchase is a tow vehicle, something like a G63, GL63 or similar.

Then a very posh covered trailer.

The wife would be putting a deposit down on a house we have both liked for a while anyway.

She would get a Vantage convertible, I’d be car shopping for days buying things like E34 M5s, Alpina, Rare AMGs and start planning a lovely workshop at the new house to build my Cummins Defender.

With the covered trailer I’d pick up my 500e, drive to Brabus, sign a cheque and say see you in 6 months, bring back a mint standard 500e on the way home and then enjoy looking after the plot we have, the cars and rescuing all the dogs.

Fine, I'd AirBnB somewhere big and secluded with good internet for a while, as i searched for a good house

I would immediately rent a nice flat with a large open-plan kitchen and decent-sized balcony/roof terrace, overlooking the Olympic Park in Stratford/Hackney Wick, then hire a removals company to do a full pack and unpack service to get into it as quickly as possible. Within hours if possible. Then I'd go out and do a massively shallow, exhaustive, ludicrously expensive shopping trip to fill the flat with cool electronics, clothes, sports equipment etc, which would be exciting at the time, yet ultimately unfulfilling. I'd also hire someone to set everything up.

I'd then let a migrant family live in my old place for rent of £10 a week until the legal stuff is sorted out.

After that, I'd pop off to Australia for a month to learn how to swim faster.

I forgot about my project car...

I'd find someone with an old Sauber Le Mans engine rusting away in a garage and put it in an old rwd Escort

My wife and I have always said that the first thing we'd do is purchase an open, first class ticket and spend a good amount of time travelling and exploring the world, and letting things settle down

There's always time to buys things - we'd spend our money/time having experiences

duncs500 wrote: Wed Mar 06, 2024 5:45 am I took a more practical viewpoint, buying property is not the work of a moment so that rules that out (although I would start looking for the right places both home and abroad).

I'd probably buy an M5CS, that can happily sit on my current drive for a few months and take me about on the day to day and on some nice trips. I would start looking out for more exotic stuff coming available for the collection and if the right cars came up buy them and store them in preparation for my car cave to receive them once ready.
Yep, this. And some of what Ian said as well.

I think an impulse purchase would be an A110. Then a good holiday whilst I ruminate.

I've already come to the conclusion that my ideal setup, in terms of home ownership, would be somewhere in Seville for 9mo of the year and a summer house on a Sewdish archipelago to retreat to when it gets too hot in Seville. That would be the starting point anyway.

I'd need car storage before really starting to think about what toys I'd want to start accruing.

Problem for me is the journey from work to Farnborough takes me past Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, Maserati.. 🙄😁

There begins the hassle of the migrant family trashing your flat, refusing to leave and ultimately getting the house upstairs.

I think gavster was just doing that to piss off the existing neighbours. The money would no longer be an issue. Sell it to a developer for a penny.

Firstly - that's very unlikely to happen, especially if it's well arranged. Or I could let it to victims of domestic violence. I dunno, anyone that needs somewhere for a tenner a week.
Secondly - I have the best landlord/tenant solicitor known to mankind to resolve issues
Thirdly - As @Sundayjumper suggested, if it was too much hassle to take on I could offload the whole place into a property auction.

I've played this game before.

There's a 6 car unit for let near me. That would be acquired.

Race car and nice track car would be next. I'd quite fancy a go at the Mini JCW challenge that's on the TOCA package. I'd also like to build an Elise to take all out victory at race of remembrance.

Big enclosed trailer and tow car also on the list. I flip on this between a high spec 40D x5 and this also be the daily or a Ford Ranger V6 with a M340i/d as a daily. Something i could hook a trailer up to and drive to the nurburgring or spa when the feeling took me.

Track car - Either a GT4 RS or Lotus Exige CUP 430 ala Mudge. It would also be very tempting to have a new Atom or a 3 Eleven.

House wise i wouldn't move immediately. I would buy somewhere abroad first and re-visit australia again.

I'd need some time to think - I couldn't just up sticks and fly away somewhere because of school, so I'd probably buy a daft pick up / van and a new bike (because I'd be not be working, so would be doing lots of fun stuff like mountain biking).

Then I'd be on the hunt for a new house - with land and workshop space. Id then probably split my time between travel and building a GT40 (out of nice shiny new parts).

I like the idea of a house or two abroad, but I don't know where. One would probably be somewhere like Morzine (so it can be used for mountain biking and snow boarding holidays), but I'm a big fan of always going to new places, so who knows where else.

Maybe I'm weird but a lot of that does nothing for me. Part of the appeal of going places for me is in planning what I want to do, myself. And as mik says, sod sharing that experience with others (apart from maybe the wife)

We would be doing all the planning and doing things ourselves. It would just be first class, monkey butlers and gold leaf on pretentious food.

I'd be VERY happy to leave the planning to someone else. I reckon knowing someone else is doing all the planning and organisation would actually be better than the actual holiday!

Organising chef/concierge/hotels/flights whilst on the way to the airport sounds way too stressful.. you can plan longer more personal trips later on, but we are talking about first things to do
