Food in Covent Garden ??

Post by dinny_g »

Any recommendations for somewhere to eat in Convent Garden on Sunday Lunchtime ?

Meeting family over for the weekend and there's such an overwhelming amount of choice, it can be hard to make a decision.

Recommendations greatly appreciated...

Obviously the Savoy - just a few yards away on the other side of the Strand.

I'm sure there's a MaccyDs nearby. Or if you're feeling posh, Burger King, like royalty!

The posh option is Shakeshack. You pay £25 for a paltry meal which doesn't even fill you up and wonder how the fuck we got to a place where shitty fast food costs that much.

How about not having a sig at all?

Any preference on type of food?

Dishoom not bad for indian.

If you like chinese food then recommend Din Tai Fung (Taiwanese Xiao Long Bao and many other things)

Plaza Ghao Geng is really great for authentic Thai Food (in Centrepoint not far from Covent Garden).

Barrafina on Drury Lane amazing for Tapas (make sure you book).

Koya good for Ramen

Like you said lots of choice.

Shakeshack burgers in the US are amazing. They're nearly as good in Cardiff. Not had one in London.

Preference would be "Non Ethnic", owing to the folks attending (at least 1 Paddy Meat and Potatoes person) £25 to £30 main course price.

Someone mentioned Brix which looks OK on the menu ??

That sort of thing really

Edit - for transparency, I did buy a Series 6 dishwasher recently

Bloody plutocrat

Haven't come across Brix. If you want something that is an experience I would try either Rules (second oldest restaurant in the country) or J Sheekey if fish is on the cards (they also do a set menu for £39 Sunday to Friday). Wiltons also good (oldest) but $$$$$.

Thanks GG - I think I've eaten in Wilton's years ago - we're talking late 90's as my old employer would walk across broken glass for Dover Sole on the bone, prepped at the table etc.

Might be an option - depends if my sister is paying...

Not gonna lie - it was bloody good. Possibly the most expensive meal for two I've had however! Stilton souffle FTW

That all looks rather nice @GG. 8-)

There is a place near Stirling that does a "twice baked stilton souffle" which is utterly superb 8-) . For £12.50 with salad and fries. :geek:

Bloody hell that looks nice @GG.

You can't go wrong with a souffle and simply* prepared fish

*I'm sure it wasn't that simple to prepare but you get my drift.

How about The Portrait in the top of the Portrait Gallery or The Delauney, which probably has something on the menu for everyone.

I have an aversion to Richard Corrigan, despite being a fellow Irishman

I’ve never been to Hawksmoor and it’s probably overpriced and not as good as it used to be, but I’d be tempted to try it. The one at Seven Dials is convenient.
