Sounds spot on for the job, and much lower than budget is a handy bonusNGRhodes wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 5:56 pm Finally found a decent car.
Welcome Steve the CRV, a 2007 I-CDTi ES.
Not sure what the official colour is but looks like damp tarmac.
Steve is much older than we planned, only 80k and full (apart from most recent service) Honda history and much lower than our budget.
I did want something mildly interesting (but still spacious enough for a family of 5), looked at a Altea Fourtrack 170bhp PD engine, but the rear drive train had a vibration, so we walked away. Could have been a worn vibration damper or something far more terminal, not worth the gamble.
Then tried to look at a Touran Sport with the same 170bhp PD engine as the Fourtrack, but the owner had the communication skills of a hermit.
All the Smax were optimistic in terms of condition, or too high milage for the price.
Steve's bodywork was not prepared/detailed in anyway, plenty of scratches to sort out, but can't find any that have gone through to the metal. Going to take a fair few days spaced out to get the scratches touched up and flattened/polished. Rear bumper has been pushed forward about 2-3mm, not decided what to do about that yet.
Steve does have a small leak from the rear (commonly from the roof rails or taillight grommet), I will take a look when I fit the rear dash cam.
My dad has one in the same colour with the newer dtec engine, and he gave us a lift over (as the Jazz we are borrowing has had an ABS pump failure), I've been in it a fair few time, so was great to be able to have a good comparison.

I like that you named it Steve, my neighbour used to be called Steve and had the same car in the same colour. His wife had a similar age X-trial but the CRV was a better car.
How about not having a sig at all?

I like that the registration is an anagram of STE’S A HO.

Now Mr Jobson, I'm sure Mr Nelson had at least some standards.Jobbo wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 7:52 pmI like that the registration is an anagram of STE’S A HO.

Work up to an app alert about a tyre pressure loss on the tesla this morning. Down to 23psi but kinda driveable (must buy a tyre pump - my old one plugged into the cigarette lighter and there aren't any on a Tesla!).
Nail in tyre but apparently Pilot Sport 4s are a bugger to repair as they have various baffles and layers of foam inside. Both rears were not quite ready for replacement but on their way there so I have bitten the bullet and gone in for a pair of new ones.

Pretty sure there is one, but it's hidden away somewhere weird like the centre console cubby or behind a flap in the boot?Explosive Newt wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2024 9:35 am Work up to an app alert about a tyre pressure loss on the tesla this morning. Re: Your fleet running reports
Merc failed its mot on worn rear tyres. Rather annoying as I’d swapped the fronts to the spare winters as I knew they were getting low, but at a (very quick) glance the rears looked fine. Have stuck the winters on there too and will look at a new set in a couple of months.
May look at something other than Michelins. They were good but have worn out quicker than expected and as it’ll need all four I might try something else on it.
X5, mucked about with the rear brakes today. Handbrake shoes, rear disks, pads, callipers and some braided hoses with stainless fittings. Gave the callipers a coat of paint to match the fronts I did a while back, might look a little blingy but is actually more subtle than the bright silver plates finish they came in once behind a wheel.
Typically it started raining just when I was at the point of no return on the second side. Got there in the end, just need to set the handbrake up properly.
Annoyingly I forgot to buy new anti rattle springs. No biggie, I can swap them without even taking the wheels off
Surprisingly the super cheap febi disks have painted bells and edges which I wasn’t expecting but was happy to see.

Re: Your fleet running reports
I put quite a half arsed advert up for the XF on another forum as I think we've finally narrowed it down to what car we're getting, a 225XE, which although gopping, ticks all the boxes for my wife so job done.
They drive a lot better than they look, are pretty nippy, AWD, will do her commute on electric only, has a heated steering wheel, a proper sunroof, decent stereo and can be remotely heated/cooled so I just need to try find one that's an actual colour now as the only one with the spec she wants so far is white, which isn't great.
They don't look nice in any colour but a blue m sport one at least looks ok.
Wonder if they remap up to i8 power

I didn't even know what a 225xe was. I initially thought it was a jaguar xe, but turns out it's a BMW with a ridiculous logic name!

Yeah the naming logic has all gone to shite now, when she said she wanted a 2 series I was hoping for an X Drive Coupe!

It looks like a 3 series touring that the Peugeot advert elephant has sat on.

The best way to look at it is through a wall.
