The Doomsday Clock

Post by mik »

Yes I get that it is intending to represent to Johnathon Q Averagecitizenperson how far we sit from a human-caused apocalypse, and I get that the recent shifting of the hands to "90 seconds from midnight" represents a higher level of concern/peril/panic than the "seven minutes from midnight" that it was set at when first revealed in the '40's, but..... since the minutes and seconds don't relate to actual minutes and seconds, it feels like a really crap way to represent this risk. :?

Using a clock face means we have 1440 minutes available in a day.

The best it has ever been set at is 17 minutes to midnight. ie 98.8% of the available scale between relax and shititsallover. This is silly.

At the very least they should do away with daylight saving so we can enjoy the summer more.
