Escalator hand-rails running too fast

Post by mik »

I just googled this, and apparently them handrails are designed to run slightly faster than the treads to ensure they definitely don't end up inadvertnely running slower - the idea being to avoid some dozey git who is leaning on the handrail (with their eyes shut like Seb on the motorway perhaps) who then tumbles backwards and breaks every bone in their body n stuff.

However.

When you are not being a dozey git who is leaning on the handrail (with your eyes shut like Seb on the motorway perhaps) and your hand keeps slowly dragging off in front of you..... it's ANNOYING!

I know I said "hand" above, but I did - of course - mean scrotum.

Faster which way? Because if it's running faster while you're going downward, faceplanting that direction sounds bad.

Slower downhill, faster uphill?

I've done work for companies where not holding onto a handrail on the stairs (and I expect escalators if they had them) is grounds for instant dismissal.

Maybe you'd have to do an "awkward nerd in photo with a girl" hand hover.

3POC is a common phrase on job hazard analysis forms and risk assessments etc.

3 Pounts Of Contact.

We get videos getting off helicopters on rigs and they come and slap wrists if you don’t do it 😂

I use my elbow to lean on the handrail, less dirty then. Seen 2 people fall down escalators on the London Underground and it’s imprinted enough of a horrible image that I’ll never run down the steps either.
How about not having a sig at all?

They should have picked him up by his legs and pushed him back the way he went in
