Useless tech support

Post by Explosive Newt »

2.5 hours on the chat to Dell tech support for a malfunctioning camera, culminating them being unable to find a software fix and arranging for an engineer to come out with a replacement lid unit.

Further googling this morning showed that it wasn't just me (and not just dell) having the issue. Some update had been mis-recognised by windows defender as a trojan and blocked.

This led me to a reddit thread and a fix. Seems crazy that they would have replaced hardware and sent engineers out for a known software fault!

First level will only have what's available to them on the internal bulletin boards. They won't be allowed to go off piste with non dell approved solutions incase they fuck up your machine. That's why they pass to an engineer.

If it becomes a known issue there will likely be a fix added internally but it takes time.
