ULEZ basards

Post by Mito Man »

I’m just at the hospital and it’s the first time since the new ULEZ zone is in force that I’m around the outskirts of London.
I noticed that driving from outside London the ULEZ zone starts right on the road to the Royal Marsden Hospital. And there’s a camera leading to the Hospital.
Just entered an address on Apple Maps as it then highlights the zone.

Now that’s a dick move, no reason why the hospital shouldn’t be exempt.
Fucking cunts.

It's not massively surprising that there's a camera on the main road at the edge of the ULEZ zone. And why should a hospital be exempt? It's the drivers not the patients who pay it, if they have to.

Just down the road from my folks - my Mum used to be a radiotherapist there!

Where's the camera exactly? We always took the Downs road entrance when dropping her off.

Anyway, just jump out on Sutton lane just before downs road and walk up Downs road and then in.

It’s looking down the intersection of Downs road and Sutton Lane

Right, so if you're being dropped off then jump out at that junction as I said before, walk up downs road and use that entrance.

If you are parking, however, then you'll have to accept the charge...

It’s quite a busy road to do a 3 point turn on. You know I don’t particularly care from my own perspective. I just drive an exempt car. Was thinking more about less fortunate people and staff.

Here in sunny Sheffield they have the ulez on the ring road. Only a matter of time before it includes cars and moves outwards. Being charged to go to a hospital is a disgrace.

How do you think the cameras which enforce the boundary of the zone know each vehicle's destination? :?:

Yes thanks for asking. I go in every 6 months for a head MRI and then have another appointment a few weeks after for a blood test and a consultant pokes my lymph nodes. I did tell them today that my lungs sometimes hurt a bit when I breath in but just put it down to dusty weather/pollen etc.
This then escalated to them wanting to do a full body CT scan tomorrow at 6pm so now I’m bricking it.

Could just have the zone not start on that route to the hospital.. they’ve quite happily included Chessington World on a ULEZ peninsula, so they could have avoided the hospital on the boundary.

Mito - take the Defender and park off-road before you get there!

Good stuff!! 👍🏻

I’m sure the scan will be fine. I’m coughing like a bastard at the moment due to a combo of dusty weather and air con

There's a certain irony in complaining about a low emissions zone (to help lower the particle counts in cities) and then pointing out that the pollen is doing you over ;)

Not sure the ULEZ will reduce the amount of pollen! 😁

More cars = more pollen sucked into and trapped in pollen filters 😀
