2yr 18k mile oil change intervals are frankly ridiculous on a 105bhp per litre engine that's likely to have led a spirited life!Swervin_Mervin wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 4:12 pm Yeah, the rod bearings is something I was well aware of but the main bearings not so much. I'm sure he's causing a few ruffles by bringing it up

Well, the theory in the case of the S65, vs the S85 (which doesn't seem to suffer the main bearing wear but does the rod bearings) is that the former has a double timing chain and the latter a single. Speculation being that the stronger chain of the S65 pulls the crank up more and the extent and location of wear on the bearings at the pulley end would suggest there's some merit in the theory.Carlos wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 8:28 pm2yr 18k mile oil change intervals are frankly ridiculous on a 105bhp per litre engine that's likely to have led a spirited life!Swervin_Mervin wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 4:12 pm Yeah, the rod bearings is something I was well aware of but the main bearings not so much. ‘Mercuns create a “cyber kart”
Still weighs 1750kg.
I’ve seen nothing other than statements of horror around the “cage” they’ve made for it.

Sreten has done the math on his Alpina. It's.....fucking oof.
But an hour and a bit of pootling around the Alpina factory and chatting with their people first.

Been watching a few of Misha's videos recently; rude not post one with the 4C. "It's quite a handful car"
Interesting to see the oft-talked about steering - at 8:30 through the carosel you can see how hard he finds it; in his other videos, like the Exige 380 he did not to long back, it breezed through it.

a. cos I thought it was CAF how they solved this one
b. cos @Sundayjumper was talking about thread repair kits recently, and these guys seem to rate "Keysert" over other brands.

Ta. Seems to be a solid insert, like (sort of) a Timesert. Those obviously need a larger hole (oo err) than a helicoil, Ferrari use a helicoil as standard so I just want to extract it & chase the threads, I don't really want to be enlarging my hole (oo err).
Also - genuine Ferrari helicoil = 43p + VAT. My luck is turning at last !

I've been watching this nutter the last few days:
Re: Decent car YouTubes
Silverstone festival aka the classic is live streamed on YouTube, current race is touring car porn, sierra rs500, e30s, capris etc…… they’re racing again tomorrow too
Re: Decent car YouTubes
Came across this the other day - baja bug meets trophy truck. That suspension is ridiculous.
Re: Decent car YouTubes
I actually quite like these restomods
Re: Decent car YouTubes
Thanks for the recommendation - I had that offered up to me but assumed a bloke driving a kids' toy was just a sort of cod-Top Gear clickbait video. Way more entertaining than I expected. Just a shame that now I've watched all 5 in the series, he hasn't yet finished his journey and his uploads are nearly as infrequent as Project Binky.
Re: Decent car YouTubes
I don't follow Nascar at all, but posting for amusement following a comment I saw online : they (drivers and/or organisers) don't appear to give a monkeys about track limits now.
There are several corners at Watkins Glen that have a big run-off area - one of these being the exit of corner one. It's rondinculous. I assume it's similar at other tracks (?)
Check out the start. The post-safety car restart around 6m40 is even more hatstand.....
edit: it's possibly been like this for some time, and I just wasn't aware.

The 1st StMary’s trophy race from todays goodwood revival is superb.
Awesome battle for 4th with button in an Alfa which looks a joy to drive but isn’t great in a straight line.
