I read about that this morning - very sad. Condolences to your extended familyJobbo wrote: ↑Wed Aug 23, 2023 12:52 pm Not a million miles away, but no - close family (my sister-in-law's dad). When I heard he was flying a Spitfire I thought it would be all over the news but it was a replica so not going to get the same attention. He flew over our house to wave at our house warming party six years ago; he loved it. Such a shame.

Back to what goes overhead - just heard a slightly unusual noise and it was two Ospreys: https://globe.adsbexchange.com/?icao=ae4eec
Quite low; one of the cats looked out of the window so I did too and saw them.

Had this noisy bugger go over at under 1000ft as I was just going off to bed the other night
Ospreys always seem to fly around in pairs around here, but always get a look when I hear them

Sorry to hear about this - as you say - as for ways to go, doing something that he loved was not a bad one.Jobbo wrote: ↑Thu Aug 24, 2023 8:54 am Take care fulfilling your dreams, kids. RIP Trevor.

At the MIL's currently, which is just east of Brize Norton. We had a pair of Hercules make about 6 passes overhead last night at about 11pm! Noisy feckers but v cool.integrale_evo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 2:50 pm Had this noisy bugger go over at under 1000ft as I was just going off to bed the other night
Re: Flightradar24 fans
Last night was the second time I've seen them here and it was a pair. One on radar, one off it so far as I could tell. Odd.integrale_evo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 2:50 pm Ospreys always seem to fly around in pairs around here, but always get a look when I hear them

Re: Flightradar24 fans
Saw this on Reddit- apparently the type of plane has an airworthiness directive in America because the wing spar attachment at the fuselage is know to corrode and fail- which is what looks to have happened in the video

Nice shot.
And in case you didn't know ('cos I didn't) - pasted from wiki
The R-3350-972-TC18DA-1 turbo-compound engines on the L-1049C had a new turbine system, the Power Recovery Turbines (PRT). Each engine's exhaust gas flowed through three turbines, increasing power by 550 hp (410 kW). One drawback of the PRT was the visible flame from the exhaust pipes; this was resolved by placing armor plating 2 in (5.1 cm) thick under the stack.

The specifications and efficiency of these seems quite incredible

I like how you can also stick it on a trailer and it doesn't look too unwieldy. Lots of people going up and down the M20 at this time of year with a massive glider in tow - however its so long that it looks unpleasant as soon as you get off the motorway.

F15 overhead earlier, looked it up as we usually get the big cargo / tankers and the odd osprey.
Looks like they’d been having fun out at sea!

A Eurofighter was flying low over our house yesterday. Sadly I was at work but plenty of people took photos: https://www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk/n ... ow-8748119

When we visit Sennen Cove near Lands End I often use Marine Traffic to ID ships I spot out to sea. I’m slightly obsessed with this one although it doesn’t travel far https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/h ... 15/zoom:10
