It's as heavy as the M240i which has a metal roof and 4wd!

The overall impression I got from Harry’s review is that it feels lovely as a refined everyday car. Which is the point of the M240i and not the point of a full M-car.

Turning off the speed limit warning would quickly become very annoying too. Even if you stuck to the limit, there are enough errors in reading speed limit signs and in nav databases that you’d still trigger it.

Plus, 275 front tyres!? It's just all sized up to cope with the extra lard it's carrying.
I'm a bit perplexed by the 275 front tyres. My best guess is because it needs super wide front tyres given the power and the weight

I think that new M2 is heavier than the 3.8 litre E34 M5 my mate used to own.

I'm struggling to find anything I like about the new M2

Yes, the engine is a corker, but that's nothing new in this car

275 fronts, that's wider than the rears on my Boxster!

Awful digital dash, dials, tech, gadgets etc

Stupidly thick steering wheel (again, the thin rim in the Boxster is a joy, having come to it from an M140i with a chunky wheel)

Nannying features etc (some of which I'm sure are legal requirements now)

But how nice does the older M2 CS look by comparison? Loved that when it came out, and it still looks great IMO

They've made it hard to like.

I still like the looks and the engine. Not much else to endear itself though.

Hate the interior. Can't decide if the dash or the seats are worse.

It's about the same weight as the E39 and E60 M5 in reality too. The E39 seems to be quoted as 1795kg in some places now and I can't easily get to the Autocar 20 Jan 1999 issue with the full road test to check what they weighed it at, but from memory 1795kg was the weight of my E39 540i Touring with auto gearbox; the M5 was a bit lighter. E60 M5 was apparently 1730-1750kg.

BMW dealership had a new M2 on their stand at Knockhill yesterday : even parking it beside a new XM wasn't enough to prevent your eye being drawn to the chunky squared off bumper elements on the M2. :?

It's not just the front and rear only the M2 that bother me, it's the heavy looking side skirts that look like they stick out as far as the arches front to back. It just makes it look fat rather than having any coke bottle hips like the comp.

I’m impressed at the speed they have gotten from this new Proton but it just looks like an ugly take on a BMW.

I absolutely despise the digital dashboard in new BMWs - they're ok in the full EV models but just feel wrong in something with a combustion engine. Also I'm sure Harry's in car camera angle wasn't helping but that wing mirror  All new BMWs have the same mirrors but it's so crap, it looks like its mounted upside down, then they just add the M trim to it so it ends up with a massively thick housing.
I'm somewhat hoping they'll do a drastic facelift on it and resolve the bumpers.
How about not having a sig at all?

Fun fact - "M" no longer stands for Motorsport but "Minecraft Edition" instead :D

I had a free trial - it expired 9 August. Sundayjumper at least made use of it finding Ferrari 360 road tests.

I've got the issue at home but I just can't be arsed digging through to find it just to post an accurate weight on an internet forum. If nobody else has done (based on my googling) it's not that important

I can't believe that no one has pointed out that Jobbo said E30 several times when I assume he was talking about the E39.

Bizarre - surely there's no autocorrect for BMW model codes?!

Actually it might because I've been using a Spanish keyboard and some of the characters are one key over... just mistyped.

I saw it but as it was Jobbo I assumed it was my eyes that were not correct.

Such an awful looking lump. Not a fan of the interior either, even the gear lever looked very off poking out of the centre console.

I can’t see me liking these even when they’re 20 years old and going a bit rusty around the edges.

fairly big improvement to the front by painting the middle lower section body coloured.

Makes you wonder why they purposely painted it black? Still not great though.
