Restaurants in Edinburgh

Post by Zonda_ »

Going 3rd week in August, the other half enjoys fine dining but the ones we’ve looked at are shut on Mondays which is what we have free. We’ve been to Ondine and The Kitchin. Any recommendations?

Fine dining-wise - Martin Wishart is the best in town, but do expect a wallet kicking
The Gardeners Cottage is good too. Also see the Lookout (same people/menu as GC, but with views)
Noto on Thistle street is good too if you like the small plates style
Tom Kitchen's other place Kora is getting a lot of praise, but I've not been myself

Oh, and get some reservations in ASAP. 3rd week in August will be mental

Go self catering and make your own food - far better ;)

Looked at all those but all apart from Kora are shut on Mondays and she doesn’t like the menu… We’ve booked Hawksmoor for one day and The Scran and Scallie for the other.

Bar Soba, off George Street is lovely, probably not "fine" dining but blooming tasty. We also ate at the Thai place in St James Shopping Centre and it was amazingly good, although wear a jumper as it was chilly.

Not fine dining in any way but the best restaurant I visited in Edinburgh was Makars Mash-Bar on Bank Street, I couldn't believe how well those simple dishes were cooked. I also visited The Grain Store on Victoria Street, which is highly rated but I actually preferred the Mash-Bar to it.
