I know that a 70 plate Mini Cooper is £367 pcm insurance. It’s gone up this year from £216. Without an 18 yo, it’s less than £45pcm! She’s staying in until Uni starts and then changing policy. FC does seem to be cheaper.

That’s a very cool first car, I did think about buying it for my daughter (and me this summer :) ), but as she’s not 14 yet, I was probably pushing the justification, even to myself! 😁
Cheers,

Ian

The other oddity of young person insurance is my daughter uses my i3s the last 10 days of most months

The cost for this is £55 per year fully comp subject to her being insured in her own right on another vehicle!

I did a double take, I missed "pcm" on first reading.

That was paying in full, some of the charges for paying on a drip can add another few hundred a year!
Wow.

Does Third Party still exist these days and if so does it save much? I wonder if you'd be better piling any savings from TP to one side to cover any losses. Especially if your insurance costs are more than the car's worth.
Apparently, someone asking for TPF&T is seen as more of a risk than someone being sensible and going FC.
I guess I'm not surprised given that it's a huge racket

I think they could be in for a shock when they get a quote to insure it in fact I doubt he'll get insure certainly with the mainstream companies. My nephew had a quote for a 15 year old Fiesta 1.4 last year and that was £4k.

They didn't strike me as people that hadn't done their research. Whatever their strategy, they knew what they were doing (or at least the dad did).

First time car insurance is a strange thing. Something “old man” like a v8 rover 75 would probably have been cheaper than the fiesta, as the insurance company probably think the fiesta is expected to be on its roof in a field after a fortnight.
