Aston Martin: The Stroll Era - How does it End?

Post by SSO »

Just posted an article on how I think the Stroll Era might end at Aston Martin given their current financial condition and dramatic drop in the stock price:

I think had they the cash Geely would be welcomed with open arms. Certainly Geely having already negotiated an AMG power train for Lotus should have a head start on keeping AML in motors.

But with that huge debt and few suitors is there any advantage other than political optics in investing now or picking over the carcass in 12months time?

Considering the rate of housing development I could well imagine the Gaydon site being bulldozed in a few years. JLR having spunked a whole load of cash building it's own fantasy temple of infinite growth next door won't have much need of it.

Definitely wiser to wait and pick over the carcass

Seems like an apt thread for this;

Unless they could negotiate a massive tax waiver, several peerages and spots at Oxbridge for the board's offspring. But that'd never happen...

@SSO :? what’s your take on the news of Aston Martin F1 team taking Honda engines? Seemed strange to me given that the road cars use AMG engines

Think this is driven as much by Mercedes wanting to untangle themselves longer term from all things Aston/Stroll. Would not be surprised to see a different engine suppler for the road cars as well in the not to distant future

Aww, what a shame he's not British so he could only get a honorary one anyway which is pointless and the chance of him getting one after he's 'asked'...

He's not the first MD who thought they had "Set up Aston Martin for future success"

Let's see some actual long term stability before you go patting yourself on the back

Indeed - I've lived in Newport Pagnell off and on for the past 25 years and there have been about as many false dawns and real ones...
