This post isn't getting the traction you thought it would, eh Gav???

Had to Google the guy. Not something that affects my life, but thought I'd post just to help see if we can get this potential behemoth of a thread some traction.

Re: That widdly squeal thing that Zakk Wylde does all the time
He's overrated, IMO. There are plenty more talented guitarists that get less coverage than him and he can't hold a candle to his predecessors in Ozzy's band (Randy Rhoads, Brad Gillis and Jake E Lee).
If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.
Re: That widdly squeal thing that Zakk Wylde does all the time
I’d never heard of him.
Can we have an example to sneer at?

It's the high WAHHHH squeal on this
He uses them a lot on Ozzy and if you took them out of his Black Label Society stuff there'd be nothing left.

I'm not going to lie, I like pinch harmonics. Mick from Slipknot is a fan of using them.
Never really liked Zakk Wylde though, He just seems like a bit of a dick.

Used in some of the greatest metal tracks, not least by the GOAT, Dimebag.
However, used in the way Zakk Wylde does it's a bit of a lazy gimmick to make his work sound more interesting imo.
From a quick Google here are 23 songs that see pinch harmonics used:
1 1. Cemetery Gates By Pantera
2 2. Wheels By Foo Fighters
3 3. No More Tears – Ozzy Osbourne
4 4. Counterfeit God by Black Label Society
5 5. Laid To Rest by Lamb Of God
6 6. Fatal Tragedy by Dream Theater
7 7. Are You Dead Yet by Children Of Bodom
8 8. Juice by Steve Vai
9 9. Spiderwebs by No Doubt
10 10. Cold Sweat by Thin Lizzy
11 11. La Grange by ZZ Top
12 12. Money For Nothing by Dire Straits
13 13. The Threat by Skid Row
14 14. Psychosocial by Slipknot
15 15. Zyglrox by Periphery
16 16. Space Time by Gojira
17 17. Panama by Van Halen
18 18. Deliver Us by Andy Timmons
19 19. Keep Your Eye On The Money by Mötley Crüe
20 20. Sex Type Thing by Stone Temple Pilots
21 21. It’s Not Funny Anymore by Husker Du
22 22. A Song For The Dead by Queens Of The Stone Age
23 23. Surfing With The Alien by Joe Satriani

I hadn't heard of him by name but obviously now know who he is, as well as what pinch harmonics are.
In the last few days I've been enjoying the return of Extreme - Nuno Bettencourt appears to be on top form as always.

That's more accurate - it's not the noise per se, it's the amount of them which Zakk sticks into every song.Swervin_Mervin wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 4:59 pm
