Tried to watch Black Panther 2 the other night, got about half way through and I have no urge to finish. They were in a tough position with this movie but it definitely feels like the MCU is losing momentum.

It was just so bloated, and safe.

I enjoyed BP1 and had hoped they'd find the same interesting style and the potential was there.

If they'd focused on the new Panther following Warmongers darker path and curbstomping the badguy (deep fried next time thanks) rathe than typical MCU of all atrocities are forgiven
in end coz they just needed a hug all along etc.

It also bloated the support character count way to much. Sure have they new Samus Iron Girl but it did not need the other two or three supersuited demiheros.

I managed about 20-30 mins of the first one and had to turn it off. Can't see me watching this one now

Yeah, she was introduced really weirdly in that other movie and series - seemed like they didn't know what to do with her. They definitely seemed to be trying to do something differently with her in this one, get everyone onside with her, but not sure it worked!

Puss in Boots - The Last Wish (cinema)

Took the munchkins. It wasn't bad, but not Pixar/Disney levels of slick. Story was a bit uneven at times, and certainly darker than I'd expected, but overall worth watching.

Thematically it deals with knowing what you want and knowing what you already have, and how that is navigated as the story develops.

Youngest and middle one were (nearly 5 and 7 respectively) a bit scared/clingy at times, so while PG perhaps one for the slightly older/less easily spooked children.

Funnily enough the wife took our boy (6) to see that today as well Alex. He enjoyed it but said there were some scary bits - even teh wife commented that she was surprised at the Death character.

Just been to see Cocaine Bear at the request of youngest sprog.

As stoopid as the storyline sounds, but in a very much self-aware way. Not roll-around the floor laughing, but plenty of funny bits. Got a little slow towards the end, but very much enjoyed it.

Bear was great - some really good action sequences.

Everything Everywhere all at once batshit crazy but really good. Astoundingly the Mrs absolutely loved it and laughed more than I did.

Watched tonight - way funnier than I was expecting, and really liked the "feel" of the way they put the film together. Felt about 15mins too long to me, but other than that it was excellent.

We went to see The Whale while were on holiday the week before last. Brendan Fraser plays it well, but it's not the most exciting movie. I had a couple of snoozes.

Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania - I found it more entertaining than Black Panther 2, but that may have been because I had a wee snooze about halfway through it. It was entertaining enough, so a 3/5 star movie, but toward the bottom of the 3. Which is fine, it's just some more entertaining nonsense. Someone clearly has something personal against Evangeline Lily though as she's sporting another brutal haircut in this.

I do think Marvel set incredibly high standards with the arc which finished with Endgame. Since then it's been very hit and miss with their best stuff being done on the tv shows although the Spiderman movie was pretty entertaining.

I struggled with this one. Took 4 sittings to finish it. It is, no doubt, beautifully made, very clever and the acting is top notch but I couldn’t shake the feeling that it’s just daft.

I’ve decided that it is just bonkers.

That Netflix Luther film

Shite, Andy Serkis was good but apart from that it’s not worth watching.

Took me ages to get round to this but I really enjoyed it. Cast is all good and it’s an interesting mix of UFO and Kaiju monster movie. Just what I needed after the Luther disappointment.

I've heard nothing but bad things about Luther which is disappointing.

We've been watching the Daniel Craig James Bond movies again and had the misfortune of watching Quantum of Solace last night. I know it had a troubled development and was also impacted by the writers strike, but f*ck me its a mess. Putting the plot to one side, every action sequence looks like it's been edited by someone having an epileptic fit. The first couple with the car chase and the boat chase in particular seem to have jump cuts every few seconds making it difficult to keep up with, comprehend, or even see and appreciate any of the actual action itself. It's also got one of the worst Bond themes ever, despite having a potentially cool main riff, which just goes nowhere at all.

I know it was kind of unique for following directly-on from the ending of Casino-Royale, but honestly, I'd be tempted to just skip it.

Aye Daniel Craig is my favourite bond but QoS is rubbish.

It looks especially bad now that Sam Mendes showed you can do old fashioned Bond in a new way with his films.

Wakanda Forever

Blimey it is long, and boring. I fell asleep for about half an hour or so in the middle and still had no trouble following the "story" when I woke up again. I liked the absence of all the usual Marvel characters, and applaud the attempt at expanding the canon, but they could have easily done better and cut about 45 minutes without anyone losing out. CGI looked subpar too, which is a bit surprising.

It did really well at the oscars, must've been wild for Ke Huy Quan. Doesn't act for 20 years and wins an oscar.

That's really weird. When I watched it I felt the male lead was really familiar, but couldn't put my finger on it. It's only via your comment that I've clicked he was the child actor in Indiana Jones & The Goonies (that's not the name of one film, but could be an interesting mash-up for the franchise). Cool.

Buba - Silly German film about two ageing brothers, their scams, "Albanian" gangsters, and Leonardo DiCaprio. It was alright actually. A firm 3/5.
