A few thoughts about this:

1. Twitter appears to be more popular than ever. I'd like to see what happens to new user signups and DAUs once the buzz has died down and Musk stop shitposting, e.g. in six months time. If it keeps on going up, advertisers will come back, they will go wherever they can find a targeted audience.
2. Long form tweets is a great idea. Essentially it merges Medium and Twitter. Medium was founded by a Twitter co-founder, it's built on the same objectives, so this is a no-brainer.
3. I don't see the benefit in making Twitter a video platform, it's a decision they've made solely on engagement metrics, because video keeps people on a platform for longer. We've already got short form vid on TT, IG, YT blah blah. I don't want everything to be video-centric.

I like the short format of Twitter. It keeps the conversations on topic. Long messages spread over multiple tweets tend to bring up multiple points which inevitably get lost or drowned by one another.

It just seems that he wants Twitter to be everything else. Video like YT/TT, messages like WhatsApp/messenger, etc... nothing original. Then he wants payments involved somehow - like paypal or is that a thread about trying to get people to pay or to pay people?

Though I'm not a particularly heavy Twitter user, so my experience may not be representative. (If they turned Twitter off tomorrow it wouldn't really bother me).

I can’t help thinking the World’s richest man probably does know what he’s doing, for the most part.

Yea, he's likely been staring at a laptop for a month going "What the fuck is this? Can someone explain what a website is please!!!"

yep, let's not even talk about it or have an opinion. We must be silent on the matter, he's right.

Why do you always try to shut down any discussion on it? It really doesn't matter if we're right or wrong.

at least I make statements and talk about them, rather than your clueless statements that you can't even discuss because you don't really understand them! 🤣

Richest man in the world, in theory on paper, based on some massively overvalued companies, who had to dump a load of Tesla stock killing its share price to be forced to buy something he tried to get out of buying.

I guess if you have enough influence to bring in investors and shotgun out enough stupid ideas, occasionally one of them will work.

But yeah, he’s got more money than me so must never criticise anything he does.

All hail Elon.

I was going to give Tim the benefit of the doubt and assume he’s shitposting, but I did the same for Gav earlier in the thread and it turns out he’s ride or die for Elon. So who knows

Did he know what he was doing when he litigated to try not to buy it?

To be fair I'm probably just jealous. Working six hours a day on a solid tech salary, plus all that free food and drink does sound pretty sweet.

I don't love Elon, he's not my boyfriend or anything. I'm just giving a massively successful bloke the benefit of the doubt, rather than shitposting a load of unverified hyperbole as "fact" whilst hopping up and down pointing, like some on this thread and elsewhere on t'internet.

I'm ejoying the wild ride as much as anyone. I just don't think twitter is dead.

also, to be fair, I was sat in a cafe dripping wet in all my bike gear when I posted that, and thought "this'll be an interesting thread when i get back home later". Sure enough. :D
