FAO i3 owners

Post by Holley »

Been trying to find winter tyres for the i3.

Can't find anything for 175/70 R19's (Rears). But I can find 155 width. Would this fit/work for the rear end <giggle>?

What size are the wheels? (ie width).

The circumference difference will be fine but is it to fit on the same rim?

Is yours an i3s? I'm guessing the 155 width is for a standard i3 unless that's a space saver size.

Normal i3 (2018 model). 155 fronts, 175 rears.

Hmm - I can only see 205 width available in winters - which are too big for that wheel width.

Ahh, didn't realise they were staggered. Apparently the fronts are 5" and rears are 5.5" and the minimum recommended tyre width for 5.5 is 165mm so you might need to buy two 5" wheels to fit the 155s on

Blackcircles had winters in 155 using the car's reg as a search. But only if having front's. Checked about 10 other websites including BMW's own and nothing. Looked at ebay but don't really want to spend £1k on a wheel set.

Seems no-one loves 175/70 19 inch tyres. Heaven knows why not!

Worse case scenario, can you get anything like CrossClimates etc?

155's will fit as the rears are still only 5.5" wide.

I'll go and check the manual now.

ETA only the REX and S have staggered wheels, yours is 5" all round and should have 155 all round !

There are crossclimates but only for the square setup.

BMW seem to expect that you'll buy a winter set of wheels (normally the fugly 427s, which are square) if you'll be doing winter tyres.

Wisley can supply the various Michelin tyres and often have spare sets of wheels you can buy too.

Just buy a spare pair of fronts for winter use.

Personally I’d be fine with 155s on the standard rear wheels, it’s only 1/4in wider at the beads each side than the factory fronts, but then I’ve been messing with non standard tyre sizes on my old sheds for decades 😅

Be interested to see what the tyre pressure sticker says, they usually list all the approved sizes and pressures.
