Still going ahead with the DAS although due to various stuff, such as wanting to get my own gear first and other more fundamental things like work commitments which have arisen, will be into next year. Always seems to be into the future but I am determined to do it. But I am still sold on the Pan European idea. Spoke to an ex-copper friend of my late father who raved about them. He bought the bike he was using upon leaving the police, claimed in 10 years and 43k miles nothing untoward happened. It’s utterly pampered mind you but even so, was good to hear. Matched up with what I’d read, which was reassuring. I’ll be honest and admit he raised his eyebrow a tad at the suggestion of it being a first bike though. Then again his first bike was some modified Norton IIRC… He’s also suggested having a few months on something intermediate first or at least we ride out together initially. Top chap.
