Economical and fun?
Re: Economical and fun?
Isn’t there something with the early turbo copper s where the tensioners decide they don’t want to tension your chain anymore and destroy the full engine?

Re: Economical and fun?
I wouldn't say so. Of course they are more expensive than running a Ford but servicing is alternate years and not too dear - minor services alternating with major ones, an indie like Northway quotes £245 / £360 https://www.northway.co.uk/offers/porsc ... ing/113793Zonda_ wrote: Sat Sep 17, 2022 10:16 am Aren’t Boxsters notoriously expensive to maintain? Looks lovely that one.
Parts and consumables is where the cost will get you - i.e. you'll shell out £150 a corner for tyres and any significant mechanical issue is going to cost you in parts. Of course Porsche is fairly reliable but >100,000 miles you are bound to start running into issues.
@GG., late of this parish, knows more on this if he is still around

We've no idea the sort of mileage it's needed for, so doing 1000 miles a year they're probably quite cheap to maintain, doing 30,000 miles - they'll cost more.
Re: Economical and fun?
Job location changes regularly so mileage is never a constant. Rarely do mote than 8k a year I reckon. I thought it was an engine out job to change plugs etc.Rich B wrote: Sat Sep 17, 2022 11:19 am We've no idea the sort of mileage it's needed for, so doing 1000 miles a year they're probably quite cheap to maintain, doing 30,000 miles - they'll cost more.

Sort of but not quite on the recommend-what-you-own theme
Don’t see many of these. Maybe for good reason. You won’t miss this one though.

Re: Economical and fun?
If we're now considering 3 litre diesel barges as "fun" we can get a 7 series.

Re: Economical and fun?
If we are recommending our own cars then get a TTS. It barely creeps into the low 30s on a run but it does go broom parp and Harris reckons it is one of Audi's best ever chassis.

Perhaps the first time in the history of the forum that we've had consecutive posts by Gavin, Gavin and Gavin.
Re: Economical and fun?
I've looked for TTS but didn't see any in budget.

Re: Economical and fun?
Like I already said, suggestions need to ignore at least one of the requirements !Rich B wrote: Sun Sep 18, 2022 12:46 pmyou only had three requirements, and that fails on one.Zonda_ wrote: Sun Sep 18, 2022 11:26 am Arbarth 500 is looking favourite at the moment. This one is 5 miles away.
