To say that Brexit hasn't had an effect is wilfully stupid Broccers.

From personal experience our international orders from the UK crashed almost straight away and have continued to drop since despite the rest of the business still growing. We went from a roughly 60/40 split of domestic to international orders before brexit to international being 3.5% of our total last month.

Unbelievable Jeff

https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/national ... bruary2022

3.Key trends
The UK leaving the EU and the subsequent transition period, along with the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, global recession and supply chain disruption, have caused higher levels of volatility in trade statistics in the past two years.

While the monthly bulletin provides analysis of short-term trade movements, comparing 2022 with equivalent 2018 data provides comparisons of recent UK trade estimates with our most recent "stable" period. We also compare 2022 levels with 2021, as we would normally. It is important to note monthly data are erratic and therefore small movements should be treated with caution.

Amazing that you're happy to go with government data over personal experience when it suits you

GF and I just recovered from covid. As I'm on the vulnerable list, the GP gave me some Paxlovid anti-viral meds, but they made me feel truly fucking horrendous. Take with caution if they're prescribed to you.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread, but I cannot fathom why we've gone from 'protect the NHS at all costs' to 'nah, fuck 'em'.

I certainly don't think that the restrictions should have lasted forever, especially in their fullest form, but removing free tests for those with symptoms, and the need to stay at home for just 5 days if positive, seems bizarre.

My colleague is positive today after she made a rare trip up to our London office yesterday. She's been feeling poorly for a few days but was testing negative until today.

I was very cautious on our video call earlier and asked her to wear a mask so I didn't catch it.

Protecting the NHS was always about keeping hospitals functioning, not giving any special status to anyone. I'm assuming they are able to cope with the current levels, so no need to single out covid any more.

Well, everything I've seen has suggested the NHS is still struggling greatly, and those I've spoken to who work within the health service cannot understand removing restrictions in thier entirity. Just Google 'NHS covid' news.

Unfortunately, we've now gotten used to the NHS just about coping, but I didn't think that keeping the 5 day isolation requirement for those with a positive test, or giving out tests to those with symptoms, was an unreasonable measure to keep in place.

After completing the series, Robinson gave an interview to the Open University explaining his conclusions and beliefs about what was needed in the NHS.[2] Among his comments were:

I do believe that whilst there is a great deal one can do in terms of training people who already have a natural aptitude, unless you’re recruiting the very best young people, the very best senior people as a starting point so that they start to recognise those young people and bring them through, until we start taking the management of these complex organisations seriously, in the way that management is taken seriously in commercial organisations, frankly we’re just going to be chipping away at the edges of the problem in the NHS.... I think what the NHS needs to learn is that actually you don’t solve problems by throwing money at it, and not every problem actually needs money to solve it. That’s the first lesson. Secondly, to get out of their heads the idea that things have to take three years to do and get into the idea that there is a series of objectives that we need to do now, and that we’ve got months, not years to do it. Those two things, I think, would have the biggest single impact on the way that the Health Service is managed.

Just tested positive. 2nd time for me. I’m not allowed to work but waiting for our response team to let me know what I need to do before I return. Then I’ll have to work out how to get more tests/pcr etc

Feels like a rough case of the flu.. gf is negative but saw my parents last night 🤦🏼‍♂️

I got a clear test this morning so fingers crossed I’m past it now.

The first couple of days were pretty rough but the last couple of of days have just felt like a head cold.

Good news. Myself and little McSwede both tested negative yesterday morning. I've got an annoying cough and some lingering snot to deal with.

Second time round and it was the head cold variety with a cough. A couple of weeks later and the cough is still here and any exercise results in laboured breathing and a very sore throat... cue more coughing.

Fvcking covid...
Cheers,

Mike.

Interesting to finally see a bit more perspecitve on the numbers, from yesterday's reports.

Image

Sweden's risky approach seemed to have faired reasonably well. Germany surprised me the most I think, given that we were all looking to them at the time and their apparently low rate. Same with France, who I'd have expected to see above Germany and on a par with us.

Ultimately though I guess it's still hard to know all the various factors in each country's stats - we're one of the most densely populated countries in Europe so did that have a big bearing for example when compared to somewhere like Sweden?
