The Watches Thread
Re: The Watches Thread
Watch looks great on that Nato!
Re: The Watches Thread
No, I think it has a different movement. I assumed when it was launched it was pretty much an SKX with an altered case shape but they aren’t nearly as similar as that. It hacks and hand-winds for a start.

Re: The Watches Thread
Interesting. On first glance it looked very similar to mine (007... still on it’s black rubber strap!)
Left over crest; tightens.
Re: The Watches Thread
It seems to me that Seiko have worked out how to replace the SKX with a pricier but very similar watch. I do really like the SKX’s case shape, though the Turtle is a nice update of the old 6039 from the 60s/70s.

That looks lovely, Simon - I really like the graduated dial; I rather wanted the PADI special edition they did of one of their divers - it had a similar blue-to-black dial, but I didn't like the red accents. IMO it looks much better this way.
Excellent NATO too, obv.

I like that PADI edition too, but it was the best part of a grand IIRC; sure I saw it on a bracelet but here it is on rubber: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Seiko-Prospex- ... B0799Q897S
The Blue Lagoon edition tempted me but was sold out before I got myself in gear. And at that point I hadn't tried on any turtle so didn't realise they wore quite so nicely; they truly belie their stated size. Maybe because the lugs are so short, the springbars are almost directly below the edge of the bezel.

Peaking in the window of a cash-converter shop earlier* and I noticed they had a surprisingly broad selection of top-brand watches.
A couple that caught my eye were a Rolex Sea Dweller and Omega Speedmaster
That wasn't expected!
(For any musical nerds, they also had an old Yamaha RX21 drum machine - not seen one of those in a LONG time)
* Trying to get a bead on on the market rate for second hand iPhones for my step-Dad

Re: The Watches Thread
I bet they don't come with box, papers or any guarantee of authenticity! Tread with care...
Re: The Watches Thread
i noticed today that my cheap daily watch is basically a copy of an IWC Pilot watch...! I’m happy though, I prefer mine!Rich B wrote: ↑Mon Apr 16, 2018 11:46 am I’m not fussed about expensive watches (not saying anyone else is wrong for liking them), I don’t really get the point of a watch that costs thousands and have no interest in what movement they have. I quite like russian and military style watches and I currently have Vostok Europe Anchar (that I like but just annoys me because it dies if I don’t wear it for a day or so (kinetic)).
So I bought a cheap quartz watch for daily wear the other day that I’m waiting for. This time German pilot style. Astroavia N57s.
Re: The Watches Thread
Have you considered putting a shit cheap cloth strap on it, because, y'know, NATO or Bond or something?
Re: The Watches Thread
God damn!! You'll be beating off the clunge with a shitty stick!
Re: The Watches Thread
Affirmative. and if I catch my watch on said stick (mid clunge-swat) and break a spring bar, guess what?! My watch won’t even fall off!!!!!!
They’ve thought if bloody everything these army men!!!!
Re: The Watches Thread
Oh! Oh! And if you find some piece of clunge to be irresistable, you can go clubbing with her AND / OR hit her really hard and still your watch won't come off, because spackerstrap

Re: The Watches Thread
They were both boxed Simon, not sure about papers etc
I'll pop in later this week for a look and see how much they are (those were the only two without prices on them)

Accidental pissed eBay win - a "Kinetic Tuna" with the 5m85 GMT movement. It's enormous, shown next to the Snowflake for scale...

It's like wearing a manhole cover, it must be 48mm with the crown and about 15mm thick. The bracelet is enormously heavy too. So...
