If they use lube lots use copperease and that's about the worst thing you can use. It just dries out to a sticky thick mess.integrale_evo wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 8:55 pm Pins are worth a look, as someone may have used lube in the past which may have gummed up. You’ll need a 7mm socket / bit though which most standard kits don’t contain.
It was recommended to use silicone lube on my Saab but I guess every make has it's own foibles.
Re: Your fleet running reports
Good that it stays "in house" after all that work it had! Congrats on the purchased/sell!!
Re: Your fleet running reports
I really like that gen of Carrera S. A friend had a 2003 one from new and I always thought it had a lot more presence over the previous one. Looked great.
Congrats

Mrs Mike doesn't like the wide hips or big arse on it. I decided silence was the best form of response.
Ended up having to go down to Newcastle in it late yesterday afternoon, stopped off halfway to refuel and got the call to say the client meetings had been cancelled, so ended up turning round and coming back up the road. Conditions were a bit mental at times and it was new to me so took it very sensibly.
First impressions? That interior which is really lambasted has aged very well - it just looks simple and clean and a logical step up from the 993 in a way. Lots more leather than in my 986 Boxster definitely helps. It really feels planted on the road, very easy to point in to corners and while it feels familiar from the Boxster, it also feels totally different. Makes a very nice noise and in no way "obnoxious" (copyright Mrs Mike), so its exciting times.
Hopefully get some miles on it over the weekend and get the new stereo fitted (although the German company forgot to send me a very key part of it)...

Re: Your fleet running reports
I have mentioned before that I test drove a lovely 996C4S when the kids were relatively young. Loved the car but unfortunately rear headroom was too tight, and I needed it to be a genuine (occasional) family transport - so ended up in a VXR8 instead.
Re: Your fleet running reports
I guess I'll just pull the caliper apart tomorrow and see if it'll clean up - if not, I'll measure it up and see what sort of refurb kits are available, or used calipers etc.
Might throw some new brake hoses on there too, if I can find ones that aren't £20 a fucking side. I'm sure they used to be much cheaper than that....

Check the cost of refurb/exchange calipers too, for the faff they save it's often well worth it.

ABS/EBD/Dynamic NA/Adaptive Dynamics NA Messages all going nuts at me when i started the XF up after being away all week
Front right ABS sensor or harness has failed, ordered a new one as theyre only 31 quid and i need the car, so not booking it in for Warranty, too much hassle for 30 quid!

I've had a look at 'new' prices of calipers (about £100), where can you find refurb/exchange ones?Sundayjumper wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 12:49 pm Check the cost of refurb/exchange calipers too, for the faff they save it's often well worth it.

Re: Your fleet running reports
Exactly, but double check the fitment, that ad says 325 & 330 but I have a nagging feeling the 330 calipers are different to the smaller models.Carlos wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 1:25 pm https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165292101424

Re: Your fleet running reports
Yeah, that's the plan - and again, the MSport got bigger brakes which affects wheel fitment etc as I understand it, so it might be I need a very specific part number.Sundayjumper wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 1:40 pmExactly, but double check the fitment, that ad says 325 & 330 but I have a nagging feeling the 330 calipers are different to the smaller models.Carlos wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 1:25 pm https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165292101424

Re: Your fleet running reports
I don't think they did on the E46, but the 330 has a larger disc than the 325/328 and the caliper is slightly different.Beany wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 3:02 pmYeah, that's the plan - and again, the MSport got bigger brakes which affects wheel fitment etc as I understand it, so it might be I need a very specific part number.Sundayjumper wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 1:40 pmExactly, but double check the fitment, that ad says 325 & 330 but I have a nagging feeling the 330 calipers are different to the smaller models.Carlos wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 1:25 pm https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165292101424

BTW, the short shift kit is amazing, what a difference once you get used to it (which doesn't take long).
Cheers,
Mike.

Yeah the standard throw was bloody awful!
