Re: Your fleet running reports
This is why I keep all the old oe fuses from my donor cars, they’re usually a lot better quality than the cheap crap you get aftermarket
Cheers, Harry
Re: Your fleet running reports
It has some rust on the front wing, plus the other wing is dented and the rear quarter had a pick up truck tailgate or something reverse into it. It warrants a full respray sadly. The picture flatters it definitely.

Re: Your fleet running reports
Essentially they are visible enough. They will be even more visible when I put the orange lenses in also.integrale_evo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 9:31 am Does look great, but I’d be interested in hearing the side repeater argument.
My understanding is you have to have them on anything built after April 1st 1986 unless you can see the front indicators when stood 1m to the side of the rear of the vehicle. Maybe the merc ones wrap around enough and reflect enough light internally to be able to do that?
I’d love to fit repeaterless wings to the e36s as they look so much cleaner without. So do e30 m3s tbh, but no way would I be able to argue the rear visibility thing with those
It’s survived about 20 or so years passing MOTs etc so I think he was just being picky.

Re: Your fleet running reports
That looks fab Dave, nice one.
Jag is still being worked on, or rather, last I heard, waiting for their lift to be unblocked by a dead transit. Hopefully they should be well into it this week. In the mean time the Rover has stopped behaving like a bitch and is getting me about quite nicely.
Twice now I've had it flat out for several miles - 109 mph, not a tick more. Quoted top speed is 115 so for 21 years old and 136k miles it's not doing too badly.

Re: Your fleet running reports
On the topic of side repeaters, the Cayenne achieves it by having them inside the wheel arch. I don’t think I’ve seen that on anything else.
Re: Your fleet running reports
Wow, that is nuts!
Re: Your fleet running reports
I like that solution, nicer than in the wings certainly.

Re: Your fleet running reports
Pump the tyres up to 50psi and it’ll probably do the quotes speed. Not that I imagine any manufacturer would ever resort to such tricks
Cheers, Harry

Re: Your fleet running reports
I can't ever see that being obscured by dirt.
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Your fleet running reports
Thanks for that info! Was sitting in the car earlier and remembered about it. Followed what you said and it cut in at the next stopKevH18 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 1:12 pmOur Focus with the same engine as the Galaxy has worked on only a handful of occasions in the 6 years we've had it. Might give it a go so thanks!DeskJockey wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 12:38 pm The start/stop feature on the Galaxy hasn't been working since the engine work was done two years ago. The system was active, but never activated. Initially I thought it was because the battery was knackered, so I had that replaced, but it still didn't activate.
I figured that all the short drives meant whatever trigger conditions were needed, were never achieved, so didn't bother with it.
Having a bit of idle time the other night I googled something fairly vague about stop/start not working and up popped a video about how to reset the battery management on a Mondeo. Given they're basically the same vehicle it was worth trying.
So, switch on ignition, lights to position two, press the rear fog light button five times, then the hazard lights button three times and the battery warning light flashes three times to indicate a reset. Took the car for a longer drive and hey presto the start/stop works again.
It's also developed some kind of battery drain from somewhere, or maybe just that it's not holding charge properly. The battery was replaced 5 years ago more or less to the day after the alternator packed up but it's perhaps not taken well to lockdowns and now only being used for mainly short journeys. I checked the voltage on a multimeter and it was 11.6v when it wouldn't start, 12.44 after a drive then 12.2 the next morning. If I could find my battery charger, it would be helpful!
Re: Your fleet running reports
Just as a note, my car was pissing around battery wise after lockdown for the same sort of reasons - charging circuit is fine, but the car barely being used left it a bit low from the local use it gets.
Charged it overnight, over a year ago, and it's not missed a beat since.
Definitely worth giving it a kick back up to a reasonable level if it's not moving much.

Dave! Your 500E looks amazing. Never sell it and enjoy!
Boring Auris (nee Corolla) update:
I'm using this to teach my eldest to drive. She's not the cause of this, but whilst practicing parking the other day, I could hear a groaning squeak from the N/S front suspension. As it was due an oil service, I thought I'd investigate further. Nothing untoward appeared to happen when I wiggled the wheel up and down on the jackstands, but curiosity got the better of me, so I removed the scuttle panel to access the top of the struts and saw that the damper nut, whilst tight, was hard up against one side of the top mount. The O/S was centered.
I removed the strut (really simple on these) and the bearing in the top mount crumbled to nothing! This was a easy fix, and at £38.00, I thought I may as well do both at the same time. But then I noticed the O/S damper was leaking and the drop links had a bit of play in them, so I ended up completing a fairly involved oil change in the end, by fitting new top mounts, dampers and drop links to the car. All in it was just under £400.00 for all the parts, but there's a certain satisfaction in fettling your cars suspension that other jobs don't give you.
That's the first 'big money' I've had to spend on this car in nearly 5 years and 100,000 miles, so I can't complain!

What parts of the car do you have to remove to change the bulb? Unbolt the front wing?Sundayjumper wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 11:26 am On the topic of side repeaters, the Cayenne achieves it by having them inside the wheel arch. I don’t think I’ve seen that on anything else.

XF staying now as my friend can't get a loan to cover the value of it.
Now there's a seed in my mind of it going I've started looking at other cars though
I quite fancy a XK I think, or maybe a Cayman or Boxster.
Don't need two practical cars really, I should have bought my uncles Boxster S before he sold it

A couple of screws to peel back the arch liner and stick your arm in. Not really a big deal and TBF it's not even something you need to do very often.Jobbo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 5:44 pmWhat parts of the car do you have to remove to change the bulb?
