Initial D

Post by tim »

My boy is showing an interest in the drifting scene and anime, so it seemed logical I point him at Initial D.

However, having never watched it myself, and a quick youtube search, there appears to be a crap load of it all over the place. Does anyone know the best source for this, from the beginning?

Proxy bay. The originals were the most charming (act 1, 2 etc). Let me know if you struggle to acquire and I can beam you up some content from my nas.

Initial D Legend 1 is free on Amazon Prime, it's a "retelling" (abridged) of the early story but remastered, was done a few years ago so looks/sounds great and no mucking about with subtitle files, weird video formats and the like. 2 and 3 are 99p to rent or a few quid to buy.

If it grabs him/you then give the originals a go.

IMHO the Legend Movies (well the first one is the only one I have watched), feel more Americanised, the subtitles are more obvious, the racing is more dramatic and less graceful, the anime series retains the tone and subtly of the manga comics well.
The series can feel drawn out as very much about Takumi's coming of age as about the cars and racing.
Don't even bother with the English dubs.
