For Prosumer look at Amplifi, for more/better I'd look at Ubiqiti.

Ive done similar recently and ended up running Cat6 to my office from the router.
Re: Home Wi FI Mesh
I bought a Ubiquiti Unifi Pro a couple of years ago for our 3 storey house with a view to adding a second repeater upstairs. I never got around to fitting the second as the base unit gives the whole house and garden 50mbps+ with 10+ devices connected.
Re: Home Wi FI Mesh
We ran Cat 6 to main hubs (office, kitchen, downstairs and garage where the switch sits) and put a Synology router and their mesh extenders on the end of the Cat 6 in a few locations. Been flawless and not too expensive to set up.
Re: Home Wi FI Mesh
The Router is in the office, which is ideal, & close enough to he kids, will prob run Cat 6 to the kids consoles as they are close, don't really want to run any more as its a hassle- done loads previously and stuff gets damaged, managing to hide them without massive disruption etc..
Will look into Amplifi and Ubuiqiti, ta

I'm perfectly happy with plebian BT mini disc mesh. Think they were on discount at £70 for three which covers on the dead spots of a three story terrace very nicely.
