TV - non-SKY options

Post by McSwede »

I've cancelled my SKY contract as part of my ploy to get a better deal but I've half a mind just to do something different. I don't have access to Virgin so would like to know what are the best options for watching TV in other ways??

I've had Sky so long I don't really have a clue what the options there are at the moment. Time for the Hive mind to wow me with options 😁

I think BT is about the only other major player.

Did you not go down the "Sky VIP" route ??

I called to cancel Sky Movies and they knocked £28 per month of our bill but let us keep Sky Movies. Compromise was we dropped the kids channels but the lad is nearly 15 now so never watches them.

NowTV packages look to be flexible for Sky stuff.

I never watch live tv so I just sign up for whatever streaming apps have stuff I want to watch at the time. It depends on what I'm watching but I'd be surprised if I ever spend more than £20 a month on TV.

I can’t get sky- no line of sight for a dish due to big trees, so now just use now tv/freeview. Better off buying a Roku device than the now tv one- now tv sticks are just Roku but with less features.

If you do, pay for your first month/free trials and then there’s an offers page which always offers you it for less, failing that cancel a pack and it immediately offers you it for half price

I junked Sky a couple of years back.

1. Use an aerial for free telly. Madness! Do miss the ability to rewind live TV occasionally.
2. Have Netflix. Can all watch different shizzle at the same time.
3. Just took out a trial for NowTV as Mrs mik desperate to watch “Your Honor”. Will try @jamcg ’s approach when it ends.

Similar:

2. Have Netflix. Can all watch different shizzle at the same time.
3. Have Prime. More shizzle.
4. Have Disney+. Now have too much shizzle and not enough time.
5. Still considering NowTV as well though. I need to look into @jamcg ’s approach.

I have freesat and freeview play built into the TV, and have a 1tb hard drive velcro'd to the back of it, so we can record, pause live TV etcs all through the TV.

Netflix, Disney and Amazon Apps are all on the TV as well and we have subscriptions to all of them so we will never run out of stuff to watch.

I would miss Sky if we didn't have it for cricket and football, some decent box sets on it as well.

Luckily my Sky is free as I use my parents Sky Go on our Xbox 😂

I work for Sky and there's some friends and family offers available for Sky products. Current ones are :

20% off a Sky Mobile data plan.
40% off a Sky mobile data plan when buying a phone or tablet.
Sky Superfast Broadband for £23 per month (normal price £32)
35% off Sky TV + Broadband for new customers
If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.

My neighbour just got a good deal on Virgin with keeping all the Sky packages (movies, sports etc). Cheaper than my Sky package.

I know this might be a crazy idea, but you could just bin off sky.

We use freeview and have Amazon because I have prime but can’t remember the last time I watched anything on it.

Why Don't You Just Switch Off Your Television Set And Go Out And Do Something Less Boring Instead?

We junked Sky a couple of years ago too. Netflix has plenty to keep us happy and I think I (meaning me, as opposed to the wife) probably use Spotify far more than I watch anything.

Our TV has freesat but it's an awful implementation so we never ever use it. It has no EPG so you can't ever find anything. Useless.

I leech off my parents Sky contract by using their online Sky Go app. It's perfect as it has the F1 channel and Discovery. Everything else on there is shite anyway. Worth asking around for as I reckon hardly anyone uses the Go app.
How about not having a sig at all?

Sitting at home, watching TV; turn it off, it's no good for me.

Some interesting ideas. Thanks.

I quite like that idea of getting rid of Sky but I really enjoy watching the sport and some of the drama. I've got a couple of weeks to ponder my choice. Can't believe no one has mentioned a dodgy firestick.

Just to give you an idea of cost I have entertainment pack and the sports pack.

Entertainment pack is £9.99 a month full price, I currently pay £4.99

Sport pack is £33.99 a month, I currently pay £19.99

If you want to know what channels you get with that- go google it yourself

It is very expensive. I'm surprised the more pikey members haven't revealed their dodgy box providers.
