Glasgow is a ***ing long way (The Jag XJ8 thread)
I've found a cheap wafty barge I quite like the look of. It is however, in Glasgow. I am in Norfolk. That's a crap of a long way to go on the off-chance it isn't shit, let alone getting it back here if it isn't, particularly with lack of overnight stay options currently.
It's under two grand so I'm not super keen on spending a substantial portion of it's value doing either. Any smart ideas, smart people?
Anyone relatively close to Glasgow that might be willing to go kick it's tyres and insult the buyer if I get from the "ooh I like that" to "ooh I want that" stage in the next week or two?

I flew to buy my W124 from Glasgow for similar money, I've had it for four years and it's not blown up, so I'm happy to be a positive example of long distance barge purchases gone righttim wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 8:40 pm I've found a cheap wafty barge I quite like the look of. PS - have you been looking on the retro rides for sale forum, it's where I got the Mercedes.

Re: Glasgow is a ***ing long way
Thanks for the link Chris, will keep an eye on that.
Re: Glasgow is a ***ing long way
If the sale falls through I’d be happy to do this for you Tim. Have done similar for a couple of southeners previously (including a Rover Sterling Coupe that Nathan would have gobbled up).
Re: Glasgow is a ***ing long way
Cheers Mik, appreciated.

The DC2 looks superb! I don’t even mind the heavy Rota wheels!speedingfine wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 9:06 pm PS - have you been looking on the retro rides for sale forum, it's where I got the Mercedes.

That’s the first thing that jumped out at me, really nicely done DC2.

Yeah, I guess everyone did the same thing:

- scroll past old tat
- "ooh - that's a bloody nice DC2!"
- back to list
- click on e36 328i coupe
- damn, not for sale

Loving the green V70!
Re: Glasgow is a ***ing long way
Neil has an XJR of similar vintage to sell.
Re: Glasgow is a ***ing long way
Wow, that looks super nice. If I was working (and had the space) I'd be very tempted.Coaster1 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 10:47 pmThe DC2 looks superb! Incidentally that 136k mile example is for sale at the exact same price that I sold my 30k mile one for back in 2004
S524BHC hasn't been MOT'd since 2014

Most Scottish Jag's are very crusty underneath.
Look out on Facebook marketplace for something more local

Re: Glasgow is a ***ing long way
I agree. The underneath of the later aluminium-bodied cars used to look poor by the end of the third year, so I'd expect a big difference on the older stuff if it's been up there for a while.
Re: Glasgow is a ***ing long way
I'm looking at X308 mostly, which pre-date the ali body cars.
