Re: Collecting Gear / Selecting Cars
I can’t imagine a slushbox auto suiting the torque light, revvy, thrashy 16v engine at all.
No one in their right mind would ever have considered an auto e30 m3, so no idea why anyone would buy basically the same setup in a merc shaped body.

I test drove a manual 2.5-16 a few years ago, I enjoyed it very much even though the car itself wasn’t the best of example.integrale_evo wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 5:20 pm I can’t imagine a slushbox auto suiting the torque light, revvy, thrashy 16v engine at all.

Engine actually felt quite torquey, similar characteristic to a VR6. But yes, manual is preferred to an auto.

Because Merc manuals of that era were notoriously shit?integrale_evo wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 5:20 pm I can’t imagine a slushbox auto suiting the torque light, revvy, thrashy 16v engine at all.

Nic Dale had one of those a long time ago, believe it suffered from overheating issues like a lot of themCoaster1 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 4:18 pm My idea spec would be smoke silver manual, but I don’t think autos are bad.

That’s a lot.
How much has the Collecting Cars site caused an increase in values?

Re: Collecting Gear / Selecting Cars
Love the Caterham but why was it only driven 500 miles since being rebuilt 12-13 years ago? There’s a story behind it I imagine.
Re: Collecting Gear / Selecting Cars
It suffered from many things but I don’t think over heating was one of them! I had the head rebuilt because it was burning lots of oil but other than that I don’t remember it being a problem car. I loved it actually, it’s one of few cars I’d love to have back.speedingfine wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 6:19 pmNic Dale had one of those a long time ago, believe it suffered from overheating issues like a lot of themCoaster1 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 4:18 pm My idea spec would be smoke silver manual, but I don’t think autos are bad.

I like the colour too, though the blue is more ‘iconic’.
