Getting a cold whilst on holiday

Post by Orange Cola »

It’s fucking shit, not had one for well over a year, avoided all the ones going round work and it pitches up now. That is all.

Find a doctor, see them, get a note, get holidays back... ;)

I couldn’t believe that was a thing until I worked for BT, where everyone was doing it!

Weird I had one in Croatia earlier this year - doesnt feel right in 37 degree heat either.

People say you get it from aircon on the plane - think mine came from a pool of children.

Sucks anyway.

There's an apocryphal explanation, in that since they banned smoking on planes, they stopped using HEPA filters on the recirculated air because it 'wasn't necessary' any more.

How true it is, I dunno. Too lazy to google it.

I think they still use HEPA filters but they’re only like 80% efficient which is poor when you can buy a air purifier for £100 which is 99.99999% efficient...
How about not having a sig at all?

Classically people would get Legionella following foreign holidays as it grew in ill-maintained air con systems. I think I last diagnosed it in a returning traveller in 2013 (and felt like House MD).

Every trip I get some sniffles for a day or so.

Air-con in developing countries is disgusting, it’s best to not look. I’m surprised Mr Newt hasn’t dealt with more !!

I usually come down with something just before we go - probably because I'm usually working myself into the ground prior to a break. This last time though - I'd had a cold and it seemed to pass for a week, but then it kicked back in fully. Had to just dose up on paracetamol and booze for the last 3 days and take the view I'd deal with it when I got back.

Still am dealing with it nearly a month later :(
