I am thinking for over a grand a year its time to drop ours.

Also wheres best for broadband with no phone line?
Latest email from Sky today is £13/month to keep Sky Entertainment. I'm sticking to my guns though. I'll see whether the world really does stop turning if we don't have Sky. If it does, I'm sure they'll still offer a deal to come back.

As for broadband, as far as I could tell, a "phone line" is an outdated concept now, it's broadband with the option of plugging a phone into it, so separate line rental doesn't happen any more. I've gone for Vodafone.

I haven't tried this, but our Sky package is in my wife's name so I suggested she cancel and I take out a new subscription in my name to get a new customer deal. You could try the same thing, with the added advantage that if it's in her name she can see how extortionate it is.

It might be worth checking Jobbo - When I did the same (Try to flip the account to other half) , I got what I thought was a pretty sweet deal as an "Loyal Customer" ( Movies + Sports for 15 years)

I got the Sky Q box for free, free installation and £18 off my monthly payment for 18 months (although then it would go up to slightly higher than I was paying before but I'll change stuff when this happens - movies are the first to go)

It's worth trying (if you haven't' already obviously)

The only thing I really want to achieve is cancelling Sky completely, to be honest.

I hear ya... Movies are definitely going for Netflix - I'm going to drop all but the basic Entertainment but my Boy wont speak to me again if I drop the Sports - he's an NBA nut and it's the only place really to watch.

My Sky box died over a month ago, to be fair they could have sent an engineer out the same weekend but schedules didn’t work out for a month. Got a new box and a year of Netflix to make up for it last week. But I can’t find anything on it for me apart from the F1 drive to survive series. I only watch Discovery, Nat Geo and F1 anyway, all my other viewing is on YouTube.

I like that with sky if you want HD its an optional extra. And if you want 4K, you have to get multiroom.

I don't get how it's still so popular, given the cost and volume availability of content elsewhere.

I'd only want SkyF1 and would pay a reasonable sum to be able to stream that but I don't want a dish or the rest of the packages. I'll just wait for the All4 highlights.

They installed our Sky Q last week - cost me 20 quid for new box and man to set up a new dish.

Must say voice search is 1 million times better than trying to remember what the prog num was in HD. Also the picture is better. A big improvement.

Can’t you stream it on Now TV? It’s basically just Sky without a dish isn’t it?

That's the same issue with all of sky sports for £9 per day. Somehow that just doesn't seem acceptable to me. :?

Roll on the end of the current sky contract and I'll get F1TV.

And you own the boxes, but if you want to use two (and have the wires already there) you have to pay extra.

I like SKY! Yes it can be expensive but not so much if you can be arsed to negotiate a deal. The picture quality is fab and the UI is superb. I'd much rather this than frig about with streaming stuff from here and there. It costs me £46 a month for 4k box and a mini box with every available channel. It's great

I don’t think it’s bad either, I paid £40 to watch the Lion King which was shit. During a F1 weekend I watch probably 10 hours of Sky so it works out peanuts compared to the cinema

And the quality of coverage of F1, football, cricket, golf etc is outstanding as is the quantity of it you can watch. They have raised the standard of what the viewer expects when watching sport. Nevermind stuff like Gomorra & Chernobyl

You don't but WGAF?? sky boxes have always been worth the square root of fuck all because there are so many of them. If I cancel my contract it gets taken away and saves me a tip run 😂

I don't have Sky, but it seems a bit like apple in that it "just works". All I'm really interested in is the sports, and I manage to catch up with everything one way or another, but it would be way less hassle and a better quality experience with Sky.

I don't quite think it's worth the money for me at the moment, but I would love to have it.

I basically have Sky because the aerial didn’t work when I bought the house. There’s fuck all That I watch apart from fast n loud, but it’s a nice menu system (particularly the voice search) and a good picture.
