If even 5 minutes on the meerkat is too much hassle, just go to a broker and get them to do the work instead.

Excellent moan, would read again, btw 😜
That so is not the case. I got the renewal through for two cars, I went on the comparison sites, got a better quote including one from the current insurer. I then went and repeated it all again on the current insurers website where I got a significantly better quote than what they were offering on the comparison site and for renewal. Phoned them up, an hour in the queue just to talk to someone and the first thing they say is “well I can’t do anything as that our offer... oh I see you’ve requested an online quote from us so ignore the renewal prices you got through the post, they’re not including a multiple number of discounts we can offer you straight away”. £250 gone off the price immediately. They apply the discounts, you haggle a bit more based on being able to name other insurers who have quoted you a figure and they agree to drop the price some more.

Just give me the best price you can offer first time round FFS.
Aka 'life', then.

I’d put the baby wipes and anti-bad in the car as you are going to be balls deep in uni girls before the week is out!!

Dave!
Is that bad as in good or bad as in bad?

I struggled through a comparison site for a quote on the 5-Series, there didn't seem to be an option to do a multi-car quote, and it ended up about £20 less than my renewal. I don't think I can CBA going round and round getting individual quotes for everything.

What about brokers ? Are they worth trying ?

Yes.

Give Footman James a call - they were excellent when they covered my MX5 and they sponsor Harry's Garage (though that wasn't why I used them).

I’m getting refused quotes a lot this week so maybe there is something to the insurers not liking Defenders story. The specialist recommended Land Rover insurers seem to be crap. Called A Plan as my dad insured his Camaro with them for £350 but they wanted £1200 - and thats a modification friendly broker. In the end the comparison websites were cheapest again but only by £20 so I renewed last night for £715.

Slowly moving all my policies to NFU, business, home and cars and I’m on average getting a decent price and much better service without stupid renewal quotes. Better cover in most instances too.

Just renewd with Churchill on the Golf - same price as last year, on line comparison quotes 120 quid more.

They did badger me a bit to reorder which is nice actually as the quote is decent. Not had to claim so no idea about that

Which is the point, this level of piss taking wouldn’t be tolerated in other industries so why the motor industry? It’s not just insurance, what’s worse than buying a new car from a new car salesman? Buying a used car from a used car salesman.

I wouldn’t expect such atrocious customer service from Apple when enquiring about a mobile telephone FFS. I can get most household appliances delivered to my door next day with a five year guarantee and decent human being for a delivery drivery driver. My weekly shop has a choice of bloke delivering it straight into my kitchen for a whole extra pound, or refunding the difference on any out of stock items, which in itself is rare.

I can get a flat rate from service providers such as trains, buses, even taxis after a night out when pissed. But car insurance - or anything else car related for that matter - *sucks sir through teeth* that’ll be some random extortionate number plucked out the air, guv. It’s not bargain hunt for cars. It needs to change.

I’m actually in support of people like Tesla closing all the dealers and just going to regional centres because you at least get treated fairly rather than having to waste time trying to find someone who’s vaguely sensible.

None of those other markets are much different though.

Whether it’s mobile phone contracts/groceries/taxis, you have a variety of choices, you can shop around if you want cheaper or you can pay more and get better service/quality.

Public transport costs rise (usually above inflation) every year and the service gets shitter. Why would you want that model?

Construction is exactly the same as the motor industry as per his rant above. Its just the way it is. People like to try and charge more for their goods and services if possible as they get more money from you that they can then spend on goods and services for themselves. Is this news?

OK, Reis have saved me £190 overall, while adding UK & EU track cover to the Porsche. I'll drink to that.

What, a broker saved you money on your insurance?! Why didn't anyone suggest that?

FWIW my DL home insurance renewal just dropped through the door. £305 this year, £297 last year. That's a 2.6% increase, and is inconsequential when considering inflation.

Anyone got any recommendations for landlord insurance for a thatched property? Or should I just use a broker...?

I believe our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ knows a man to protect against acts of god, it’ll cost you though.
