Getting tired of dealing with this shit now, the whole industry needs an overhaul.

Even if your existing insurer gave a sensible renewal quote you’d still need to shop around to know that was the case.

If even 5 minutes on the meerkat is too much hassle, just go to a broker and get them to do the work instead.

Excellent moan, would read again, btw 😜

JIC, it's never been easier. Even with more than one car to insure.

I use confused.com, they automatically check for new quotes annually. Simples.

Don't know if that was deliberate but :D

Great timing - I've just this morning had my renewal from Admiral and it's £50 more than last year. Which on the face of it seems OK tbh.

Do the online comparisons really work for, err, larger households ? I really ought to shop around but it sounds like it'll be painful working through all the permutations when there's more than a couple of cars.

Can I just take a moment to complain that moving 4 minutes drive away from my old house and changing my marital status to separated resulted in my premium going from £218 to £480!

This is despite the fact I'm actually less likely to kill myself* now.

*I was never planning to and I'm quite happy being alive, thankyouverymuch.

Being married drops your premium because your wife will emit a human speed limit warning sound. Fact.

Does that explain why my premiums on automatics are always lower?

Mini = Fanny magnet.

I’d put the baby wipes and anti-bad in the car as you are going to be balls deep in uni girls before the week is out!!

Dave!

That so is not the case. I got the renewal through for two cars, I went on the comparison sites, got a better quote including one from the current insurer. I then went and repeated it all again on the current insurers website where I got a significantly better quote than what they were offering on the comparison site and for renewal. Phoned them up, an hour in the queue just to talk to someone and the first thing they say is “well I can’t do anything as that our offer... oh I see you’ve requested an online quote from us so ignore the renewal prices you got through the post, they’re not including a multiple number of discounts we can offer you straight away”. £250 gone off the price immediately. They apply the discounts, you haggle a bit more based on being able to name other insurers who have quoted you a figure and they agree to drop the price some more.

Just give me the best price you can offer first time round FFS.

Direct Line seem to be giving me cheaper prices on renewal than for a new quote nowadays. When I asked them about it they confirmed they were working harder to reward loyalty than other companies. Whether that remains the case on next renewal I'll have to see.

My parents bought me a private plate for my birthday, I went on to the Tesco Insurance site to amend my cover expecting at least a 30 quid admin fee, and got a £3.77 refund instead!

One of the more positive insurance company experiences I've had!

Are you ignoring my suggestion to use a broker?

I’m getting deja vu reading this thread. If you want to do the legwork yourself, do it - if you don’t, use a broker who will do it for you. It’s simple.
