Yeah, I was surprised to find the 330 isn't impacted by this either.
GG. wrote: Mon Apr 08, 2019 10:50 am Not really. I guess another pretty big concern is really whether once all the infrastructure is in place, whether they start rolling the cut off date forward and then when EVs get enough of a foothold it provides a mechanism to charge all ICE vehicles.
They're going to apply congestion to charge to EVs (yes, full EVs) by 2025 as well, as I understand it.

Well that actually makes sense, not charging EVs for congestion is odd as they still add to congestion.

We then spent a lot of time finding the most appropriate green approved ULEZ friendly replacement for an E60 520d and came up with either an S65 AMG or M6 V10... :D
Are you sure? I can't find any examples of 2001 530's that were anything but Euro 3. In fact, considering Euro 4 didn't come out till 4 years later I'd be very very surprised.

I put it through the checker twice as I was surprised myself.

Plugged in a random reg from autotrader Y596EBA and it also passed.

The rollout in 2021 to the area within the South Circular is a different order of magnitude, however. The argument "your 2006 car will be 15 years old" obviously doesn't apply to diesels which could be only 7. Ethically it really should be combined with a grant scheme for newer diesel cars.
But why are 'you' buying a diesel to drive around London?

And to grant schemes - no, no, no. The taxpayer should not be subsidising average Joe to get any diesel cars, and petrol-hybrids and EVs are becoming ubiquitous now for people to just buy one of those themselves instead.
You buy a diesel as it suits you and maybe you also need to travel into central London.

It’s a hateful system and is a big kick in the balls to those with the least amount of money. The people with a perfectly reliable 2004 Passat diesel generally do so out of necessity.

I see it as simply a tax on the poor.

Also as TFL are involved and are utterly inept at any logical work (my sister worked for them for many years) then people’s livelihoods are reliant on them.

Already on PistonHeads someone has bought a delivery van which is compliant, then someone more knowledgeable has mentioned that it’s currently done on age and to expect their van to be non compliant whenever TFL fancy. Impacting people financially.

I imagine the checkers all use the same source, but after reading considering Euro 4 wasn't even available for type approval till 2005, they're probably wrong. No way is a 2001 car (likely an even old design) Euro 4.

Hmmm. So, I check my old old Mondeo ('03 and definitely Euro 3 and it also said exempt) so then I read this. I know that's for bikes but I think the same applies for cars.

I guess they've updated the DB based on those emissions?

I guess a lot of people will be paying when they don't really need to?

My 2004 645 is euro 3 but except from ULEZ too. There’s loads of weird quirky exemptions which make no sense.

It's based on nox output isn't it? So mostly dervs affected, like trucks and vans. You know, that service industry London relies on.

The Congestion charge worked really well didn't it, so I can only assume that this will be as successful!
Cheers.

Sounds great to me. Encourage filthy diesels off the road in favour of petrols. Only thing I disagree with is the exemption of black cabs as well, but then they're never going to piss those weirdos off if they can help it are they?

That’s all well and good for those that can afford them.

Also if they even gave a crap about air pollution they would incentivise the use of low emissions vehicles, not punish them.

Seems like you can get some fairly old and cheap petrols that will be clean enough, so I don't see the affordability issue. And they are incentivising the use of low emissions vehicles...by punishing the use of high emissions vehicles.

Slight issue is people who have recently bought diesel vans etc that are now, presumably, worth significantly less

Shit happens. It's been known about for long enough.
