Work stress

Post by V8Granite »

In Bangladesh, finished building the largest power station we've ever done and I've been put in charge.

Tomorrow I'm going into a meeting for the sign off discussion. This turns it from a commissioned power station to a commercially operative power station where the customer is running it.

The meeting will discuss the snagging lists, argue over some contract titbits and involve large sums of money.

It's a big company and the equivalent of me arguing, discussing and compromising with the head of British gas over in the UK.

I shall wear my smartest shorts.

I think my boss has overplayed my skills with dealing with customers somewhat, I've not been nervous at work for years!!

Still, getting a 20% pay increase because of it is a nice bonus, only for a month mind you.

If this works I shall sort this Brexit hullabaloo upon my return.

In my experience, the way to deal with the snagging list is to nod and make agreeable noises about everything on the list and then leg it.

The Evo forum really is a shadow of its former self. I remember when the internet was for the elite and now they seem to let any spastic on

Guess I have less money, but I retired at 54 over 10 years ago, so I think I’m more successful. ;)

Or turn off the bits with issues and leg it, getting them to pay out for a return visit in a few months time when they realise it’s broken.

Hope it all went well.

Roll on the new year for my existence. After tomorrow I'm saying no you can't have it till 2019. The lead times in my world seem to be gauged on when you helped someone out in an emergency. :D :D :D

I found out a last minute requirement from the app dev team that needs a firewall rule change. So thats the delivery schedule snookered for end of year!

We've been working on this delivery for almost a year.

How can you plan for your clients not being organised? Let me know, I'll implement it next year so I don't go through the mental turmoil again. :D :D

IT from the fucking 90s

We can have a firewall rule coded, tested, approved and pushed out across 5 sites in a few minutes.
